My drill gave up today, so looking for recommendations for a replacement, do I buy a well known brand of brushless or go for anonymous make from well know site beginning with A

I use Argos own brand of Guild and swear by them. Have drills, one for caravan legs another for use in garage, circular saw, planer and sander all excellent.

If you have a Homebase near you that is still open, they were doing a B&D battery drill for £40. B&D are the same company as Stanley these days.

I've had quite a few "bargain" drills over the years and none have lasted all that long.
Current drill is a Black and Decker 18v which has lasted about 6 years and still going strong.

My Black and Decker, batteries are NiCads 18v, if we go away for a week then I have to take the charger with me, no real problem except another kilo of weight. I bought a Parkside 24 volt drill from Lidl li-ion battery, for about £30 light and just right for the steadys.

I use a Parkside (Lidl) cordless screwdriver. Lighter than a drill, more controlable, and recharges from a standard usb socket. I had to get my steady winder machined to 1/8" (same as a standard screwdriver bit).

I do a lot of DIY and use a Bosch 18v drill/driver. It's quiet compact and can drive a 6mm x 150mm screw into a fence post no trouble. It has torque control which I have to remember to set low when using it on the steadies otherwise it will jack the caravan up.

If just for your caravan then go for cheap as it will get minimal use. If you are going to use it for DIY as well then buy a better brand, but don't go silly!
I have an old DeWalt with a Ni-cad battery that I use just for the caravan, the battery is pretty tired, but it does the job well enough. If/when that dies I will buy a cheappie from Aldi/Lidl to replace it.

I wouldn't consider buying Ni-cad battery tools any more (assuming that they are still available?). I couldn't count the number of times I went to use my old Ni-cad drill to find that the battery had gone flat in storage. I charge my Li-on drill after use and it's always been OK the next time I use it. Of course if you have an old Ni-cad tool you might as well get maximum use out of it before resigning it to the bin.

So I have ordered a unknown brand 21 volt brushless, from Amazon so will give it a go once it arrives, normally use Makita for DIY but too big and heavy to carry around in the van, looked at Lidl but they seem to have gone down the route of bare units without the battery and charger

I've always just used the drill I keep at home. I pressed my old Screwfix-special Makita drill with NiMh batteries into steady winding duty when it was already a decade old, with lots of use. Sadly one cycle of the steadies going up or down would exhaust the battery and the charger was massive. So I stuck to the supplied manual winder. As I replaced that Makita with another with LXT LiON batteries, I can run the steadies up and down all day and the battery keeps it charge.

I have a Speedjack fitting for a drill and it fits nicely over the steadies. It has a deep 19mm socket preventing it from slipping. We are not asking anything for it except postage costs. We are in Worcester.

Why not put all your for sale items on the forum Marketplace.

It is not for sale as giving it away free and all I want is postage. (y) :)
Still might get more views in Marketplace, as would be recipients who don’t wish to view various threads might just peruse the Marketplace as the best place for items that they may need. It widens your scope.

To be honest not too bothered as the thought was that someone on this thread may find it useful as it is top quality. We have no used it for several years as had E&P.
