I see Polestar are selling pre owned cars, 3 years old for £20 k .
Extended range ones for £21.3k with free charger. Looks like a good deal.
Polestar

That’s good as they are Polestar approved. One dealership local to us has an extensive array of pre owned EVs with Teslas down to £19k, and even a Leaf as a local runabout for under £9k.

They all came with a button” California Mode”. 🙃
I guess the warranty / guarantee is worthless unless Donald steps in🤪
A bit of a shame as apparently they were nice except for software glitches. I think it is the second time that the CEO has gone bankrupt manufacturing cars.

At circa £50 k new three years ago I’d be very upset 🤬
I think most cars depreciate at a rapid rate early in their life, I bought my Audi in October at 3 months old for £45K, it was £63.5K new, I had similar savings with the previous two cars (Volvo).

Likewise. I bought a 6 month old Mondeo estate from Ford Direct and a 6 month old XC70 from Volvo Approved. Both were ex hire cars but in pristine condition. Also a pre reg Forester at significant discount and only 65 miles on the clock.

My son can buy his company leased, £87k Defender, for £47k after 12 months or 10k miles.
I still could not afford the road tax or servicing to buy it from him. But it is lovely.

I suspect the low prices of secondhand EV's is due to the immaturity so many marques, who have not proven their long term durability. As that data builds I'm sure the markets will begin to sort the good from the poor.

Meanwhile good opportunities for private buyers who have been put off by the high price of new cars.

There is some seriously affordable secondhand EV coming on the market, we have noticed several specialist EV only garages in our area, we lease a PHEV, we are seriously considering buying a decent used EV we only cover 7500 miles maximum a year, over 36 months our PHEV lease works out £19,167 and we will have nothing to show for it.

Agree. Prior to purchasing the Lexus we looked around the forecourt and the equivalent model full EV with lower mileage was substantially less. I wonder why considering they were about £10k more expensive than the hybrid at time of purchase? 🤔

I wonder if those looking at pre owned cars are put off by supposed range limitations, and possible high insurance costs. Plus they feel confident wrt ICE technology and the ability of more garages to service or repair ICE.

Whilst at Chippenham Motors a few months ago I noticed an area “containerised “ about the size of a large single garage. Sign said EVs only. Maybe an isolation area if something goes wrong??
I assume all the Chinese EV imports are NCAP rated? Volvo is .

Similarly when we took our Rio for a minor rear end scrape to be repaired the repair Center had an EV quarantine area and the manager said they are held for 48 hours. That was back in 2022.

BYD models seem to achieve NCAP five stars and MG are tested. What insurers have said is that some Chinese imports are not as well designed for repair ability as mainstream western or Korean Japanese makes. And the logistics of obtaining parts isn’t so mature. But given the numbers now being bought these shortcomings will undoubtedly be addressed.

Been looking at the Polestar EV site, I can purchase a Polestar 2 less than 26,000 miles with Polestar 2 year warranty for less than £20,000. My current lease is costing me approximately £20,000 and I will have nothing to show for it but an empty parking space. 🙂
