I guess you have no children christine. There was I, commenting to Lenny above, then I scroll down and find a child hater :O( very sad. I will repeat what I said to Lenny, child haters shouldn't be on this planet let alone a caravan site ;O)

Lord B. you upset MAM by calling him DAD and now having a go at Chris for a mere light hearted suggestion of banning children - hell man what's up - milk maid has let you down or run out of Viagra? Joking aside I do not see any problems with children on site - in fact the sound of children playing is great. It is the responsibility of the parent(s) to instil into the child respect for other people and their posessions. Regarding TV, laptops, etc. on site I have mad myself unpopular on many previous postings as to the need for such unnecessary added weight in the van. Holidays are to be enjoyed and are not an extension of home or work. Get away to unwind and enjoy what God has offered you.

Kathryn, we've just spent four days on site with a family van on the next pitch, father and two boys of two and six.(Mum had gone on a hen weekend, the 6yr old told us).It was an delight to see these boisterous but well- behaved boys enjoying themselves, but even more so to see Dad joining in their games. When they left, the site seemed awfully quiet, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.Their visit just proved to us that not all kids are bad. We thoroughly enjoyed having them on site.

Emmerson - that's nice to hear. Someone said in this thread that I think my kids are golden and they're not! Well I guess I do really and isn't it nice to start life with someone thinking that you are golden?

We were away with friends this weekend just gone and my 5 year old and their 5 year old girl played all weekend gathering flowers (weeds) and bringing bouquets for the mums and making potions with water and grass seeds and just generally amusing themselves with nature. And if you had seen them I think you may well have thought that they were golden and they represented exactly what childhood is all about. We also went walking in the Peak District and hunting for Blue John and found a piece of quartz in a stream and blue calcite on a hillside. My son has a little box now in which he keeps all the treasures that he has found whilst out and about on our adventures. We have Welsh slate as well - that kept him happy for a whole afternoon, just chipping away at a large piece and seeing how nicely it splits.

Caravanning is brilliant for introducing them to the wonders of nature and we love it.

Kathryn i used to think my kids were golden too. I took a few wake up calls and a few parent teacher evenings and about 20 years for me to find out that my four girls are far from it.They may not be golden i still love each and everyone of them!! And i inherited the older two aswell!

Ahhhh - that's where CCC weekend rallies come in useful.

All the ones that I've attended have a separate section for 'The Youth' - a sort of tented prison camp, well away from the rest of humanity, where The Youth are corralled for the duration, indulging whatever it is that The Youth get up to safely out of harms way -

Perhaps, on commercial sites they could provide large cages, rather like dog boarding kennels (sheltered from the rain, naturally - one wouldn't want The Youth welfare people on ones back!) where The Youth could be deposited upon arrival, and kept fed and watered until it's time to leave?

Try going on a few rallies and you may see some of what you remember there is usually an allocated area away from the vans for all the games the kids love.

I have to say I do agree with the no ball games near caravans rule but no reason why the kids should not enjoy themselves.

You think ball games are bad; last year in treardur bay anglsey my parents brand new coachman pastiche was hit on the roof by a kite which was being flown by a guy with two young kids right in the middle of the site.

The damage was considerable and required a trip back to the coachman factory, and guess what the guy had no insurance and a cival claim was just too expensive for a retired couple to pay.

Personally if i see any person using balls within stricking distance of my pitch i ask them to go to the play area politely, if they refuse then its a trip to the reception, i dont go away to be on edge that my van is going to be damaged by inconsiderate others (not just kids), i do not pitch my van on the local rec or park so dont play games on caravan pitches.

Jeepers do you need insurance to fly a kite now?
