Hi Brian

I was looking through a thread on Mavericks recently and I've come across a line you wrote...............................

"The car has now done 122k and the only major problem was a new fuel pump at 109k"

I have a 1999 Terrano which is the same car as the mav, and mine has been having an intermittent problem in starting recently, as in it will NOT go no matter how much the engine turns over. Then when it does start it is fine again for some weeks and fires immediately as normal.

The problem seems to me to be fuel related and I was wondering if you recognised any of the symptoms. Also as a matter of interest can you tell me how much the fuel pump cost please?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Nick

Hi Nick, sorry missed your post .

When my pump went the car took ages to start but once running the revs were VERY irratic and black smoke from the exhaust.

I think the pump was around the

Thanks Graham for passing on, and thanks too Brian for the reply.

The problem looks now as though it may be in the ECU or the relays around the pump. It is going to a good 4x4 chap in Fife who will hopefully sort the problem. From your description of the fuel pump problem it sounds like that isn't the case as the car runs perfectly, the problem is in getting it started (the garage today have ruled out any mechanical probs).

So we will see.....but thanks Brian for your help it has helped me rule out one more thing.

Cheers

Hi Brian

Sorry about the delay inseeing your post, I haven't had a chance to look at the forum for a week or two.

I had the car to a garage who said there is no apparent mechanical problem, and the electrical specialist had it for a day and guess what?? it behaved impeccably! so no joy there I'm afraid. It's now in a bodyshop repairer for a week or two as my other half had a small accident with a tree!

Meanwhile I have bitten the bullet and bought a Discovery, I will sell the Terrano on (making the buyer aware of the fault) and then I will have peace of mind for our trip to Switzerland in June - it is our honeymoon so need complete reliability! -and I bought a Landie????

Many thanks for the interest, if I ever do get to the bottom of the problem I will let you know.

All the best

Nick
