Feedback on Chevy Captiva 2.0 diesel

I am being seduced by the current leasing deals on the subject motor.

It ticks the kerbwieght, power and max tow boxes for my Series 5 Bailey Virginia at 1500kg. It also seems superior to the similar sized Hyundai/Kia Sportage and Tuscon in a number of areas.

So how does it tow?

All experiences and opinions gratefully received but spare me the anti 4x4 guff. I do actually need a medium size softroader for a variety of reasons such as internal space, traction on fields and tracks etc. and most importantly I prefer this type of vehicle for towing.

If money was no object I would be considering the new Freelander, Honda CRV or X Trail but it is so I aint.

Thanks

David

Yes Roger I'm sure you are right but The Santa Fe is a budget breaker, the lease price is a joke, about 60% more in monthly payment terms!!

Hi David,

One of my work colleagues in Holland - a guy called Jaap - has just bought the Captiva diesel - and tows a Kip Kompakt caravan - which I think has a MTPLM of 1000kg

Jaap collected the Captiva this January and hasn't towed yet, but seems pleased with his purchase.

David, the budget difference doesn't surprise me but as you include internal space in your requirements the Tucson/Sportage might be too small.

hi i have the new santa fe cdx 7. its a great towcar but it is expensive. when i seen the advert for the captiva it does look the same inside. my santas kerb is 1893. what about the dodge nitro?.

Thanks folks - looked at one in the showroom today and not that impressed with the styling or fit and finish plus roadtest reviews are "less than flattering" so I wont be shelling out my hard earned on it.

It's a bigun though and beats the oppostion out of sight on value for money and you were all correct; the Captiva is comparable to the Santa Fe in size.

Now Looking at a Sportage diesel and booked a roadtest for tuesday - it ticks all the boxes and is shorter wheelbase which suits me better as the boot is still large enough for the dog.

It will have to be good before I part with the Shogun though!!

Hi David W.

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall previous postings about this Chevy and it was stated that you cannot carry 3rd seat passengers and tow at the same time.

I would check it out if I were you.
