It depends whether you still ant sea/sand or whether youwill be happy with a good pool complex, surroundings and activities on site. If so, perhaps try the Loire region which has many good sites and a straight run from Dover.

Hi Colin.

I would second Lesley's suggestion of the Loire valley. We had 2 great weeks there this summer in August. We stayed at "Le Parc De Fierbois" which is about 30 miles south of Tours.

The site has a good pool complex with water slides. A private lake forms part of the site as well which has a small beach. The water is fine for swimming. At the other end of the lake there an adventure park with zip wires and obstacles - great for the kids though there is a charge to hire the equipment.

It is about a 7 hour drive from calais which is just far enough south to make a difference with the weather - it was lovely when we were there. If you go dont miss the Planete Futuroscope theme park as well especialy the night time light show.

Regards, Martin.
