Well, we are starting to get away from being young, stopped doing that thing, Work. "Sorry Kev" And after 3 years getting used to it. Great . But noticed that the "others" have steps with handles and other type of assistance things. People this morning using motor movers to put the caravan 2 feet onto the car, . Whats going on. ?

Trouble is Dad that the older we get the more things irritate and the more we judge what other people are doing if it isn't the way we do it. It's like nose weight, I mean to say who ever used to measure that.

Martin, I try to keep my "nose" weight down by having it shaved every year.
I even saw, this morning , a season pitch that had artificial grass, but because of the wind blownig it away leaving a" Stratford pitch" .
Ok go ahead and call me Grumpy.

Soŕry folks, the "Strstford pitch" is a reference to a site where several folk went too. And the pitches were close to pure mud. The site is one that is not open all year and therefore seems to favour permànant caravanners and ignore the the end of summer tourers. Who,then get muddy pitches.
Sorry gripe over.

Hutch the Grump.

no Martin. what you are supposed to do in retirement is all the things you were going to do before you retired.
and then when you have done all them you are that shattered you just want to rest.
the days get shorter the energy goes. and everyday you get up something doesn't work that worked perfectly well the day before.
the older you get the worse it gets to a point where you wish you were still working or at least had the energy you had while working.
your mind is still in 25 but the body isn't. time goes so quickly one week runs into another. and the kids always seem on holiday.
not that I mind that so much it gives us time to come home away from the manic tourists
speaking of which this last two weeks we have had torrential rain hurricanes and no power for a while it was so bad last week they were surfing on windermere .
back home this week then away to shut the van up [site closes mid november] wow nearly christmas again.
bah humbug.

Lets not forget the endless round of GP appointments, district nurse appointments, physio appointments, consultant appointments, scans, blood tests, x-rays, changes in medications, follow ups for changes in medication, side effects of new medication, need I go on.... The diminishing cognitive processes, the lack of mobility despite the physio appointments above, the need to pee 10ml every ten seconds and not to mention the waterproof mats on every surface that we may come into contact with. Oh that'll do for the moaning. Still twenty odd years away from retirement age. At this rate I won't make it. Still on a positive note I woke up yesterday so I must still be alive.

Now that's what you call grumpy

My ninety five year old mother, was utterly convinced that someone somewhere, was stealing two days a week from her. I used to sit there and quietly snigger to myself - but now - where have those days gone.

I know what you mean, 37 medical appointments so far this year with another 12 to come.

I wear my Grumpy Old Git T Shirt with pride :)
The Sproket Knee Pads are now an essential.
Late night drinking is a thing of the passed. Afternoons are much better B)
Don't do fancy designer clothes anymore.
Still walk the dogs but takes twice as long.
And the day is never long enough . How did I work and get things done
The good news I can still reverse onto the hitch with no help from SWMBO. Great things mirrors. But I guess a camera may be on the horizon.
Good news is we are still enjoying everything and making the most of what we have. Get out there and tour. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Bl**dy he*ll, I was quite happy till I read this thread. Now I'm suicidal!!!!!!!!!!!!
Retirement is the best job I've ever had. OK, there's a few snags, like no time off, no holiday pay, no sick pay, and everything takes twice as long as it used to, but what the heck, we've got twice as much time to do it in!
What other job would allow me to go to Europe for nearly four months every year, do what I want to do and get paid for it? And hours to suit myself, whatever job needs doing.
And get to be on first name terms with the lovely girls on reception at the doctors, and in the Pharmacy.
My dog Lucy thinks the life is fantastic; she gets to go out whenever she wants to, and takes me with her!
And all this exercise means that I have lost the excess poundage I was carrying, making it easier to walk farther, so keeping more fit.
I'm fitter and lighter than I was when gave up work almost 15 years ago. The only snag is that at 75, time left to do things is getting shorter.
So we have to do more things!
Retirement? The best time of my life! (so far!)

I had similar aspirations to Emmerson, but daughters two divorce extra grand kids and now going to University at mid forties have somewhat constrained our pre planned activities. But heck I wouldn’t trade the compensations for anything. Just hope we can squeeze in the pre plans before the match ends.

Retirement was great but our daughter having twins has curtailed our spare time a fair bit. It does mean a lot more baby sitting as the cost of nursery for more than a day a week is just too high so grandparents have to share so less longer trips next year.
As we get older though providing we still want to catty on then things like steps with a handrail might become needed.
I can understand using a mover to hitch as unless communication between driver and assistant is good it is far less hassle. Got a camera now though, and I can see the tow ball on the screen, so reversing to the hitch is a doddle. It came with the car but having tried it I would have it fitted if the next car has not got one.

yeah agree with most of the above. retirement is the best job I have had. it's just a pity I had to wait so long and get old before it.
we toured for over 40 years starting in our early 20's enjoyed every minute it was our escape from the day to day toil. but as we got older the appeal vanished as the ailments due to age and being worn out by work got hold.
just at the time I retired we had no wish to carry on doing what seemed like a chore now as there was no need to escape. so gave up and sold the van.
don't regret it one bit. now life's simpler and there is just not enough time to go anyway. the static will do for now it gets us nearer the things we like without towing the metal box and is only 60mins from home so can come home any time and go back to our shed in the lakes in half a day if required.
that part of retirement is great it's just the rest that's not so good.

yeah I pop in now and again when we at home. school hols and all that.
dont worry too much about still being working kev. to be really really honest I would turn the clock back 10 years to get my health back even if I still had go back to the daily grind.
I well remember being 60 and saying to co worker who was just about to retire .hell I wish it was me going on friday he said casually well it will come soon enough. not long ago I was in the same boat. and now it's here.
but warned don't wish your time away being old is not all it's cracked up to be.
how right he was.
