It’s incredible that other things being equal I could have had a heat pump installed for around £4-5k with the grant, but a new combi condensing boiler was quoted at £7k. Economics of the mad house, but I would probably have taken it were the house suitable.
Does that include replacing the radiators , pipes and redecoration?

The surveyor said the radiators would not require replacement as they are all, apart from bathroom, three years old double panel radiators with them being well sized for each room, with two large ones in the lounge that tend to be throttled well back. No it didn’t cover any redecorating. Significant changes would have been replastering and decorating where the existing boiler was removed in the kitchen, and the extension of the airing cupboard in to a single bedroom that I use as an office to site the tanks. Not too expensive as my daughter had a false wall installed across the upstairs front to back of the house, to reduce noise from the neighbour. That cost around £1500 including thermal and noise insulation. My office wall would be about a quarter the length that she had installed. I didn’t take it as far as a firm price quotation as the water supply restrictions imposed by a 15 mm supply with iffy pressure sort of stopped the conversation dead.

Of course it can be made mandatory in new build. They don’t qualify for the grant anyway as it is not replacing an existing gas system. You are also ignoring the cost of installing gas heating isn’t within the house price.

I was asking the question as I do not know. Has legislation being passed to make in mandatory as cannot see how that will save any home owner £300 a month?
