A massive amount of historic , personal, PMs have now been destroyed. At the very least those private posts between Forumites should have been retained private to those individuals.
The whole point for most of us is we retained privacy but could explain private issues outside of the public domain.
Most do not want to swap e mai addresses, so PMs just gave a better option.
So far none of the other forums I use have closed down the PM.

What makes you believe they were destroyed? All previous messages should still be accessible. The change only disabled new ones from being created.

All my messages are still there, few that they are.
Exactly. They didn't go anywhere. Fact of the matter is, we looked at the level of messages that were being sent on each and every one of our forums before we had to put this is in place and while I wholeheartedly agree that it's an inconvenience, it really wasn't used that much here on Practical Caravan. The most messages that were ever sent in one day over the past YEAR was 18, most other days were 2-3 per day. It simply was not used all that much.

I realize other forums you visit may not have put it in place, we didn't want to put it in place either. It would have been vastly easier for us to NOT do this, we wouldn't even need to be having these discussions if that was the case. However, we have to follow what our legal department says and this is what they said to do. If others choose not to, that's their choice.

Apologies, They are there. I looked in the wrong place!
Looking at your graph the chances of an abuse type issue look extremely remote😉

I don't disagree. But no matter how many times you point out the silliness of it all to me personally, it's not going to change it. If you hate it, disagree with it, and want it changed, then speak to your local Government. You can do so right here. - https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903. I'd sign it myself if I was in the UK.

Freedom of Speech....where did you get that idea from😁

No it's just that it is what it is and we're beginning to border on discussing politics.

It's up to the Admins what they want to do with this thread....but it ain't about caravans 😁

True, but will you be closing all the other threads in Chit Chat , Forum Issues and Feedback etc that do not mention caravans etc?

If other forums are NOT doing the same as this one it begs the question who is correct here?, Is this forum over-reacting to a perceived issue, rather than an actual one? Is this forums "Legal Advice" flawed in some way? I dont know, I am just asking.

If the legislation is so clear why is this the only forum I belong to where PD/M's have been disabled?
Are all the other forums breaking the law now? As this is the only one acting this way is does tend to suggest that the remaining majority have looked at the issue and decided to carry on. The risks of doing that, IF they are all wrong, are very heavy financial penalties so I expect they have looked at it long and hard.

As I have pointed it out to you several times now, we are NOT the only ones implementing it. I even gave you multiple examples of others. Just because you don't visit those examples, doesn't mean it's not happening. If you want to know why others are not implementing it, ask those places where it's not enabled why it's not. See if they also have well paid lawyers on hand to filter through the minutia of all the legal aspects, because I assure you we do and this was their suggested path.

OK. Admin have made it clear as to their position and reasoning. Complaining about it is not going to change the decision. I am going to lock this thread. Before anyone accuses me of stifling free speech, anyone who wants to discuss the implementation of the Online Safety Act is welcome to start a new thread in Chit Chat. Please remember forum rules and keep party politics out of it.
