Large, roomy 8 seater needed - HELP!!

We currently own a lovely old 8 seater Toyota Hi Ace Super Custom which we absolutley love. It has bags of interior space to accommodate 8 adults in comfort and still has loads of room in the boot for luggage and our loopy dog!

Unfortunately it doesn't have enough "oomph" to be a decent tow car and so we're looking to replace it.

Problem is we don't know what to replace it with!

We need an 8 seater that can tow up to 1700kg (sticking to the 85% rule) that still has good luggage space in the boot. We could possibly get away with a 7 seater but 8 would be better.

Everything we've looked at so far has been OK for passenger space but having a third row of seats has meant the boot space has been non-existant!!

Can anyone recommend something suitable or am I asking too much?

Definately looking to buy second hand. Age of the vehicle isn't important - getting 8 seats and a decent boot is!

Many Thanks in advance.

A Volkswagen Caravelle or the cheaper Transporter Shuttle should meet your needs. It's got 8 seats, bags of space and with a kerbweight of at least 2200kg would allow you to stay within your set weight target.

My husbands company has Mercedes 8 seater Vito traveliners and Mercedes Viano Long Wheel Base Executive cars that have 2.2 or very fast 3 litre CDI engines.

The LWB will seat eight and has room for luggage, We borrowed a 3 litre to tow our caravan when our Disco broke down last summer. A fine car with armchair reclining seats and ballroom like space.

I had a Renault Traffic 9 seater as a hire car, a little more basic than an MPV but still very well specced, very comfortable and loads of space - you would need one of the more powerful engine options.

Vauxhall and Nissan do rebadged versions of same.

VW shuttle would be a good option, we have the caravelle which is higher spec but only comes with 7 seats i beleive the Shuttle can have upto 9. The 2.5 TDI comes in either 130bhp or as I have the 174bhp
