We have booked this site for 10 days in the summer. Does anybody have any views?

We booked based on past experience of several previous visits to Les Castels site which have all been excellent, hopefully this will live up to the others high standards.

If nobody knows the site, what about the region (this is an area of France weve never been near before), any must-see sights or things to avoid?

Thanks

David

We are also booked in there for 10 nights during the first two weeks of July.

Last summer we stayed at St Die and really enjoyed the Vosges region so decided to try another part of the area this year. Places worth visiting are Mulhouse, especially the Motor Museum, Colmar and if its not too far, Strasbourg. Another day trip well worth doing is the Route des Cretes along the length of the Vosges.

We found the locals very friendly and as its not a particularly touristy area which suited us just fine:)

Hi Dusty,

We will be visiting a few of the places you have mentioned as well as hopefully a day trip into Switzerland & possibly even Germany. Glad to hear it is relatively tourist-free area as we prefer a 'French' holiday rather than a 'British holiday in France' where you never seem to hear a French voice. Hopefully we will still manage with our (very) limited French. We are going during the 2nd two weeks in August after spending 3 nights near Paris. Found a few reviews of the site on www.campsitereviews.com which all seemed to confirm that the site will be up to the usual Castels standard.

Hi david

we booked for 10 nights last year but left after a day,

rain was forcast for the next ten days

we was dissapointed as we was right the top of the site a 10 minuite walk to reception it was very noisy the one night we stayed due to the many dutch partys going on. The pool complex was tiny and dirty and the photos make it look deciving and the watersports people were not at the lake that year but its got big carp in there the nearest supermarket is a twenty minuite drive away.

i was dissapointed to say the least as the brouchure make it look very nice ....

Hi David

We have been to the Val de Bonnal for the last two years. It is the first site we have returned to in many years of going to France.

Yes, the weather was wet last year, but these things can't be helped! The year before was a scorcher! We were there the end July/beginning August both times. The site does get busy at this time of year, but never been bothered by excess noise. The dutch are there in force, but aren't they everywhere? It's a beautiful site in a beautiful area. Very green and scenic with lots of places to visit. Recommend Belfort, Besancon, Colmar (a must)!, the grand ballon (highest point in the Vosges), even a long day out into the black forest in Germany - along to Lake Titisee. The lakes by the site are lovely for swimming etc. The pool complex is fairly small, excellent new toilet blocks, good takeaway etc..all in all an excellent site and we'd highly recommend it - you'll enjoy your stay. We have a teenage son, and he loved it - good entertainment etc at night. This year it's Brittany for a change for us.....Hope the sun shines for you and have a great time. We'll definitely return to this area in the future :)
