Hi Colinn

I'm sorry, I didn't realise that I had come over as 'disdainful' of discussion. Please accept my apology as I didn't mean to upset you. I certainly didn't mean to be dismissive.

I was just trying to add my bit of viewpoint simply that 'i think' that people are overreacting about the term '4x4'. Its become emotive and that doesn't make sense. As Colin - Yorkshire posted, its just a tool.

I'm new to this forum so I haven't seen what has gone before. I feel like I've arrived at a party when all the booze has gone.

Oh by the way Colin, if you wouldn't mind, call me Ian or 'Scouse Ian' rather than Scouser. I hate that word. :)

Ian
Hi Ian, plenty of booze left - drink on!! (Didn't mean to offend with my thoughtless choice of words, apologies).

G ,

I know what your argument is and you are right.

A 4x4 owner complains because people ASSUME only a 4x4 can be a high polluter so we get actively targeted not by government but by Joe 'Eco' Public. Government are cleaver to bracket 'vehicles' into Co2 bands and thus it will encompass any vehicle

Look at say a 3lt V6 petrol saloon and if there we no badges or markings to tell you what it was most people would not consider it to be different to a 1.6 1.8 or 2lt would they? So consequently few people would take umbridge at you.

Yet by their very look most people can tell that a vehicle is 4x4 (or in the style of a 4x4) thus they can markedly target it as a polluter

I'm pretty sure that if said 3lt man described above got singled out he would be saying the same as us 4x4ies.

G , when you get abused in public for the car you own then I will have every sympathy with you , trust me its not pleasant. My little lad was terrified when it happened last year. And the abuser was a middle aged well to do women who swore and banged the windows whilst hurling her attack at me.

Thats why I take issue as a 4x4 owner becuase some people do not see beyond that media hype.

Yes I pollute and more than a Toyata Prius but the Prius still pollutes.

Never crossed my mind that people can actually get abused simply for owning a 4x4...Sorry to hear that

hi all

every time this topic is aired on a forum (not just this one) the same comments keep cropping up by both sides the pro camp complain why should we pay more than joe bloggs in a mini blah, blah, blah, and the anti camp say they should because joe bloggs in a mini doesn't blah, blah, blah.

I would put it this way if yer wants a 4x4 or as been pointed out by others a large car it is your choice have one if you want one just pay up and stop complaining.

on the other hand if you don,t want one don't have one it is also your choice just pay less be thankful and also stop complaining.

in the end is only a matter of choice make your own and live with it the reason by the way that the highest polluters have to pay more is so the lowest polluters (all cars pollute even electric ones)pay less because joe eco public wants it that way it is as simple as that.

If it was only that simple I would agree.

New buyers get this choice, take it or leave it.

Trouble is many of us already owned the vehicles and had no idea that eco tax would be applied in such a way.

The car is too young and expensive to scrap and that would hardly be ecological.

The price has dropped so much it's not feasible to sell or at least at a realistic price.

A good old bit of winging never did any one any harm, after all whats a forum for, a problem shared and a problem ..... er well actually it's still the same problem :0(

'Clockwork' and 'g'

You may have noticed that your recent posts in which some sort of personal vendetta appears to be taking place have been deleted from the forum.

I would suggest to both of you that you check your email in trays.

I made a VERY simple reasonable post that hi-lighted that co2 is a wider issue than just the fabled 4x4. I've not heard of people with old style gas boilers getting their windows stickered for poluting, why then should I with my eco friendly governement backed boier get my car stickered by some smelly dreadlocked eco plumb?

Why has that been removed?

See above

I strongly advise you to abandon this topic now.

I do have some sympathy for the catch 22 situation that you and some others find themselves in as the saying goes :- "there but for the grace of god go I" IF we had not sold the motor home with it's 2.6ltr petrol engine when we did

IF we had bought the 575 stiring that looked perfect for us instead of the lightweight 380 bailey and so on.

the point I was trying to make is one of choice in the first place, if you want a 6mtr+ van what the hell do you tow it with

ahhh well not a punto thats for sure.

my gripe is with the caravan manufacturers making ever more bigger vans with more equipment and therefore heavier as a consequence. Because apparently that is what the customer wants so with that one must assume also that the customer wants a great big tow car to go with it and that is where the choice comes in.

I would want and have a pretty great big car even if I didn't have a larger caravan.

I wouldn't have or want a smallish caravan, sardine life style and lack of cat swinging space do not appeal to me.

Plenty still have large powerfull cars and never even have a tow hitch.

I'm taking the mods advice, and going for the travel and sex option!

hi clockwork

you pays yer money and makes yer choice and then yer carry on paying, myself I like my sardine can on wheels and the little cheap to run tow car in full knowlege that there is acctually very little (cat swinging) difference in living space between it (no fixed bed) and a 6mtr + one with a fixed bed (when the bedroom door is shut). and I am absolutely convinced there is no difference at all while sat outside in the lounger in the sun (if we ever get any that is???).

now I think I will join you in the sex and travel option allthough I don't fancy bangcock it sounds painfull.
