Hi,

I have a Ford Maverick 2.7td the problem i have is that the heater motor has packed in on speeds 1-3. Any ideas of what it might be and how to rectify it.

Many thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi Neill

I know nothing at all about Mavericks but I worked on VW / Audi's for years and the MK 11 Golf suffered from a similar problem in that the fan would only work on speed 4. The problem with the golf's, and I would imagine with your vehicle, was the rheostat for the motor. Basically the motor gets battery voltage direct on speed 4 but other speeds the current goes through the rheostat to step the voltage and speed down as required. In my experience the rheostat is never far from the motor, it is generally about the size of your little finger, possibly ceramic or similar with a wire in and one out. That's not to say it isn't built into the motor on a Ford.

That's about as much help as I can be, perhaps there is someone with better knowledge of Fords who may be able to elaborate.
