An associate who is a contract manager responsibles for the build on building for public use has had a number of recent problems re Traffic Flow (Pedestrian Type) in the washing an changing facilities of some builds. Floor tiling has been deemed a H & S and insurance risk as it may get to slippery with a lot of people using it and it needing freequent cleaning.

One sports facility had to have tousands of pounds of tiled floors and shower floors replaced after two accidents on staffs freshly cleaned floors.

The tiling was considered safe for domestic or low traffic areas only.
Doh. Like try reading it again ;-)

Any attempt at rational argument goes out of the window with the mention of `Health and Safety`

There used to be saying "those who can do, do. Those who can`t, teach" Should now be " those who can`t and don`t want anyone else to, do H&S"

Prior to taking early retirement Angus I was in further education teaching for 25 years - your remark has cut me to the quick, I will now never be able to visit my friends at the college and view them in the same light. I am now feeling suicidal.

No your still in the 2lst century but after all thats what wardens and cleaners are their for to look after the guests on sites, if it means 24/7 so be it, we all have a job to do and thats one of them. Liz
When I'm on a Caravan Club Site I don't consider myself a 'guest' but as a fellow club member and always leave the showers as I would like to find them...Clean! It must be people like yourself...a'Guest' who leave the showers in an awful state!

It is ridiculous to expect a member of staff to clean the shower after every use, Cris talks about treating others with respect and leaving facilities as he found them, how does he do this?? with his tongue??.

The showers on many sites are not of the best design and a stream of soapy water flowing under the door is a frequent sight, the provided mop is my tool to leave the facilities as I found them. Could a site be liable for NOT supplying a mop to clear up soapy water?.

In the domestic / hotel room there is a bath mat to cope with the 2-3 times a day that the shower is used, not feasible on a campsite where the showers are used 10 times /hour, the swimming pool is also different to the campsite as the showers are usually in a completely wet area and dressing is done elsewhere.

Most of us use caravans as a means of cheap holidays once the initial purchase has been made, if Cris expects the level of service he spouts about, what the hell is he doing in a caravan?.

If Cris objects to using a mop to clear up after himself I expect he objects to using rubbish bins as he has paid for the staff to run around after him picking up his rubbish.

Gary your post shows either absolute ignorance re what has been said already or you have chosen to ignore that whilst you wade in with the personal insult as well with clap trap about using tongue or throwing litter.

As this subject had raised so much furore and with Liz who posted it managing a camp site I ran the idea past my insurance friend who has nothing to do with the type of insurance that would be involved.

I posted their snap shot view based on their knowlege and experience of insurance dealings.

I posted -

"David's company are not into this sort of cover but he and his colleagues advice has always been pretty good, maybe CliveV if he is still around or someone in insurance could give a definitive answer." (Berty take note)

We caravan for our reasons and run a QUIET, TIDY, pitch and I'm not going to repeat what I've already said about general behaviour on all sites.

To address the H&S side of the argument, I would suggest it read something like this -

A full risk assessment should be carried out with regards to the shower cubicle and a copy of it should be available to view at the reception.

The person using the shower has to follow a written procedure, which is -

1 Upon entering the shower a visual inspection must be carried out to identify any potential hazards.

2 Have a shower

3 A full isolation of all valves using a multi lock hasp, then the showerer must put his/her personal lock on the multi lock, then the site owner/warden must be called to put their lock on

4 An isolation certificate will then be filled out

5 A "Wet floor" sign is to be attached to the door

6 The showerer will then be issued with a specially designed child safe mop and bucket which has to be signed for and proceed to mop out the shower

7 The showerer MUST dry the floor and shower tray by any means possible or stand guard until the floor drys naturally

8 Call the site owner back for a full inspection.

9 The de-isolation procedure is then carried out with the certificate handed back to reception

10 Go and have a lay down with a large Scotch to de-stress

Is there anything that I've forgotten?

I have been shopping this morning, popped into Ladies Toilet, could not help but notice a sign on cupboard door which read "Please make sure mop and bucket and all cleaning materials are locked away".

Less chance of them getting nicked then.

I drove to work this morning and came across a sign that said "STOP".

I didn`t see one that told me to go again but I did do anyway.

Am I breaching H&S regulations?

Oh I forgot.

At the last election I saw numerous signs telling me to `vote Labour`, I didn`t do that either yet I`m still here.

Is this a strange phenomenon or common sense?

One Hundred and Eighteen posts about the pros and cons of putting a mop and bucket in the shower room....barmy or what!

How about all the issues surrounding caravanners having to trundle off daily to fetch fresh water and dispose of their waste water or having to empty the toilet cassette and of course the cheek of it we are also expected to take our own rubbish to the dustbins. Whatever next?

Just to put in my fourpenneth,I can see both sides of the argument however occasionally in this country but on most sites that I have visited in France the shower block has a number of long handled blades to 'sweep' the cubicle they have the same effect as a mop but do in part at least remove the bulk of water, soap etc and literally takes a second to use so I cant see people objecting to be expected to use them .Although i can think of one who might! :0)

Cris did you copy, past & post to the two major players in the caravanning & camping fraternity, to your suggested legal implications / H&S RE the mop & bucket, it has gone this far so you may as well go the full mile, I'm sure you do not want to leave the job half done.

Berty...

Ps loved that picture of you in this months PC, in your suit with the "C"
