Berty.

Does that mean that people on CC and other sites who have always seemed pleased and offered thanks the many times I've used my size and bulk often aided by large wife and kids to help them manouvre their vans were just humouring us and help erecting troublesome awning in the wind should be frowned upon.

Or may be we've made a mistake by gathering peoples washing that's been blowing away, picking up a range of tables, chairs, drying racks, waste containers or toys when the wind gets up and they are away from the van.

Or also using my selection of spare awning pegs and straps to prevent others awnings and caravans getting damage and even donatig them to the seemingly thankful fellow caravanners.

We've also taken down at least three damaged awnings and helped clear up broken awnings for people struggling in bad weather. The last time two years ago in Eire when tents and awnings were trashed at three in the morning.

I also guess running and standing with my back to a large caravan holding it back on a slope as it headed towards a stream as the owners looked on in horror as it rolled away as they had not applied the brakes pales in all significance to mop duties!

cris - I'd have paid good money to see that.

And if she had been on a site today a really good site management would have given Lisa a birthday cake and the mountain of candles for it ;-)

Maybe a bottle of bubbly to.

party poppers

decorations for the awning

candle lit romantic dinner

useful present such as midge net headware

violinist to serenade her

oh, and even Berty on mop duty to releive her of that on her special day ;0)

We'd even asked if they needed help as they seemed to be newbies.

I'm not built for sprinting but saw the van start to move and ran from our awning shouting to put the brake on, it was a big heavy van and even pushed 20 odd stone of me as it had pulled away from the owners hands and he rolled back on the grass and froze with my wife screaming to get the brake.

It was difficult to give away Cava a few years ago.

It was called Spanish Champagne and the French caused mayhem for the producers and it was considered crap by many all though it is as fine product as Champagne.

Producers played to the UK holiday makers on their cheap spanish breaks. When the laws clamped down on marketing sparkling wines as "Champagne Methodnoise" the marketing boys realised that the Spanish name Cava should stand on its own.

Yet another success for the marketing boys ;-)

Must look out for a guy in a superman outfit next time we are away @ 20 stone running around a campsite chasing after caravans would be far better than any entertainment the site could provide, and if he could include a mop & bucket I would be well impressed!

Nice 1 Walter, Sorry cris.

On a site near Saumur that I'm not allowed to mention by name, (but has birds in it) last year, the site owners heard that two of their "guests" were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, and arranged a buffet evening and wine for all the campers in honour of the occasion.A lovely gesture, at no extra cost to anyone.

No doubt Berty as you say you have no respect for money you would have just watched the poor devils van roll away and blow the expense and his holiday.

For one that judges that expecting service at a site is a crime and now judges that someone height and size is to be mocked or means they can't run shows where true ignorance really lies.

Emmerson, my daughter was given a cake for her 16th birthday at a site near Saumur. Must be something about Saumur.

Cris if you can dish it out then please be prepared to expect some back in return, you know what they say if you cant take it don't give it, and you seem to give a lot on here, and no way am I having a personal dig, each to his own I prefer to lead a healthy life style and keep fit and at a reasonable weight, but I do not poor scorn on to any one who is a little on the larger side. It's just reading your post's that you give of this air of superiority, so in my minds eye I conjured up this image of superman, you know done it all seen it all, but I'm just waffling now, all it was, was a bit of light hearted banter,(hook line and sinker :)) and if I offended than I'm sure you will get over it. Got me puzzled on this one though "as you say you have no respect for money" cant remember quoting that on this thread, perhaps you will enlighten me, while I *** off and re bait my hook.

Berty... :)

That is a terrible story you tell

You give people advice and offer help

They ignore it and you end up saving their van from a watery demise.

I expect they offered little in the way of thanks

Personally I would have mopped the floor with them!

Thanks Garry, I just love a sense of humour!

Berty... Old, bedraggled, deranged, going thin on top, railings missing in

places, but still enjoys a laugh & a joke (not had a sense of humour

by-pass yet)

Berty if you think my 1.995 metres tall and about 109.5 kilos now (just over 17 stone as I cant run or cycle at present) a "little" large you should see my little/younger brothers :)

It's probabaly why we've done sports and never done quaint country or other pubs, we either hit our heads or can't see through the draggers smoke.

;-) funny Garry.

The people were quite pleased to say the least.

The last word from me on this topic as I started it, unless you know different. Some of you will probably meet up during the year, if so I wonder, when you enter the shower block and see the mop and bucket perhaps you'll giggle and remember this topic.

As so many of you have been wound up by this subject I emailed an insurer friend with a basic outline on this matter.

David's company are not into this sort of cover but he and his colleagues advice has always been pretty good, maybe CliveV if he is still around or someone in insurance could give a definitive answer.

"Good to hear your recovery is going well mate.

Your caravan site questions raised some interesting points that I've put to a couple of our risk assessors and Adam our H & S fanatic.

Going with your description of the places and use of Mops and Buckets and having done the odd camping trip myself in these litigious times we would advise site management not to provide this equipment for the use of paying clients.

We would advise caravanners or campers not to use the equipment.

The use of such equipment may open a wide range of potential legal situations.

Apart from injuring themselves with the Mop and Bucket or injuring another person the user could be held liable for others slipping and injuring themselves.

You could even claim that you had slipped on the floor you had cleaned as it was expected of you and that you had no training re mopping and drying floors.

What exactly would you be cleaning?

Picking up a mop that had prviously mopped up debris such as glass that then injured yourself or another camper could lead to a legal eagles golden egg being laid.

Storage of the Mop and Bucket is open to a wide variety of legal action should someone trip over it or the mop fall over causing injury.

Children playing with the mop and bucket is another potential problem.

This sort of cover is not our line but we know of cases re clients being held liable for accidents after "dangerous" ice or snow covered paths had been cleared by them and people have claimed that steps and paths had been left wet after cleaning leading to an accident when in fact it had been raining.

Advice to sites - Lock your cleaning gear away

Advice to campers - Leave well alone "

Hi Cris, and all, I did not mean to cause any trouble over my topic, but I did think it was a Health and Safety issue. As you mentioned anybody using the mop and bucket and somebody gets hurt they could be liable, or should I say the site, not sure.

I can see the point guests might think they are helping wardens and cleaners, but they are not.

I do not leave any cleaning stuff out; it's all locked away after use.

Signs are put out, slippery floor sign in shower block is more a less out all the time.

I have signs out whilst I am cleaning, or one shower block is closed whilst it's being cleaned.

Once again I am sorry if I have caused any trouble over this topic, but I was really only concerned over guests.

As I said I thought this might come under Health and Safety and possibly insurance, but I thought ccc sites might have different rules, than on a private site.

Liz

An associate who is a contract manager responsibles for the build on building for public use has had a number of recent problems re Traffic Flow (Pedestrian Type) in the washing an changing facilities of some builds. Floor tiling has been deemed a H & S and insurance risk as it may get to slippery with a lot of people using it and it needing freequent cleaning.

One sports facility had to have tousands of pounds of tiled floors and shower floors replaced after two accidents on staffs freshly cleaned floors.

The tiling was considered safe for domestic or low traffic areas only.
