hi everyone can i have your expert advice please,i have just ordered a new caravan a couple of weeks ago but the other day i

phoned the caravan club to ask if my car would be a match for the new van, but to be told it would not be advisable as it would be over the 85% mark.

unfortunatly i am not in the position at the moment to replace my car as well as the new caravan.

my car is a vauxhall vectra 2005 model 1.9cdti sri 150bhp not sure of the kerbweight, the new caravan would be miro1283kg

and mtplm1490kg should i cancel the new caravan.

thank you for any advice.

Hi Terence.

The dealer should have checked that your car could tow the caravan before they sold it to you .

But i can suggest you go to www.towsure.co.uk and you can see if your car is a match .

Hi Terry m

Went on WhattowCar.com for you :-

Opel Vectra III - 1.9 CDTi with a Standaard Caravan

Pete Steers reviewed a Opel Vectra III - 1.9 CDTi (110 Kw/147 bhp). Modelyear: april 2004 - up to now) and a Standaard Caravan of 1400 kg.

The towing capability for this outfit is:

= 94%* = 103 km/u = 19%

I have been towing for a number of years and tried different cars, however, I now have the Vauxhall Vectra SRI 150 BHP diesel - Kerb weight 1555 kg, towing 1400kg of Caravan MTLPM, she performs superbly, loads of guts uphill and on the straights no comparison with other cars such as the Ford Mondeos 138 BHP. The car has achieved overall whilst towing 32 MPG. As well as the performance whilst towing the whole outfit looks brilliant and makes heads turn. So don't bother with the 4+4s this outfit eats them all and very safely to.

I make it 1490Kg caravan Div-By 1555Kg Car x 100 = 95.8% MATCH.

Hope this help Steve.

I tow a 1483 mtplm caravan with a Zafira 150 CDTi and it tows just fine.

If you put as much as possible in the car (not sure how many people you have to fit in the car, so not sure of available space), then you increase weight of the car and decrease the weight of the caravan - both good things.

I would state that a positive response from Stephen who tows with more less the same car as you as a far better appraisal of the towing abilities than an arbitary percentage based on the max weight of a caravan and the minimum weight of the car.

Just ensure you stick withing the car's legal limits (stated on the driver's door shut).
