From the local news last night:

Thieves take couple's mobile home

John and Beryl Yandall

The Yandalls say the thieves have taken their "dream"

A couple from Sussex have been left with only the clothes they are wearing after thieves drove off from a New Forest site in their mobile home.

John and Beryl Yandall, from Brighton, lost everything they owned when they returned to the Longbeech camp site to find their £17,000 home had gone.

Mr Yandall said they felt it was secure as it was fitted with wheel clamps, an alarm and a hitch lock.

Hampshire Police believe it could have been driven away by a red 4x4 vehicle.

A mobile home almost identical to the one stolen

The couple's mobile home was worth £17,000 but was not insured

Pc Mike Bemand said there had been two other caravan thefts in the area in the past five days.

The couple are currently living in a van, and have said they were not insured.

Mrs Yandall said: "They've taken our dream away. We worked hard for that... and they've taken everything.

"It's like a nightmare - I can't put it into words."

Any witnesses who saw a red 4x4 vehicle in the area of the camp site on Sunday are being urged to contact police.

security devices and insurance are all very well and essentail but the best sucurity is good nieghours if we all keep a look out and if we see anyone tampering with a lock/ wheel clamp etc we should either ask what they are doing, or immediately contact the wardens or police if someone is up to no good nine times out of ten if someone evens shouts over to ask what they are up to they will clear off. If you make afuss then orther campers who may not have noticed what was going on should come to your assistance. If we all done this thiefs would be less likely to try anything on site.
