NISSAN X-TRAIL

Whilst on holiday last week, my wife and her father were involved in a serious road accident. They were hit, almost head on, by a wagon travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the wagon was arrested for drink driving.

Anyway, the point i was going to make is that even though the X-trail was completely demolished down the drivers side, my wife and her father are still here to tell the tale.

The strength of the car and all the protective measures built in to it, definately saved the lives of my family. The car also stayed upright after been shunted across the carriageway and ending up facing the opposite direction.

Once the insurance claim has been settled, i will not hesitate to replace it with another.

Anyone out there thinking of buying a new tug, i would definately recommend an X-trail on it's safety ability alone.

Regards, Mike

Michael thank you for passing on the information

I am glad that nobody was hurt

Its nice to read this about the XT as a recent poster on this website compared the bodywork to cooking foil and was adamant that a cough from him would dent it

Nice to have a more balanced view

The body skin and paint on most cars these days is thinner than it used to be now that galvanising is the norm, the strength is more in the body sections you can't see. When 5th gear trashed an old disco with a newish Espace the results would probably have been different if it had been two vehicles of similar age

Hi Garfield I would not entirely agree with the thickness of metal comment

We had a Cortina in 1963 and you could see hand impressions on the boot lid.

We also had 4 Citroen BXs over a 12 year period and every one had dents in the doors from car parkers. The BX weighed less than a ton to get the performnace but the trend of late has been for safety and this means thicker panels as well as better chassis design from what I observe.

None of our 3 XTs which is the vehicle in question have suffered dented doors or boot lids and that can't be due to chassis/monocoque design
