We are thinking about stopping overnight with our caravan on the M5. Can anyone tell me how much it costs and how to go about it and any services to avoid. Do you just turn up or do you have to prebook. Thanks

Ever since my husband and I saw a youth trying to access a caravan (in broad daylight) we have been reluctant to stay in such places. It was very busy with lots of people around but this was not a deterent. He kept moving from van to van trying the doors. The owners were sitting in their car having a sandwich at the time! Why not have a look for a local caravan/camping park, which would be more secure, if you only want on overnight stop.

Thanks for your replies. We haven't decided whether to do this or just set off from home early morning and drive straight there

How far are you going??

Michael Wood services is OK for parking - but take you own food/supplies as the stuff on offer is expensive & quality-wise leaves a lot to be desired. For overnight stops you normally pay at the services shop.

It depends which way you are going, Strensham services got a mention on this site recently as being particularly good. I can only think that the person who recommended it was going north because south bound it is horrible, parked in between wagons that are coming and going all night. NOT recommended.

We're travelling from the north east of England to Devon. Was hoping to get quite a way down ie M5 before stopping, but it will probably be too late in the evening for us to go to a nearby site or CL
