On the thread about Black ice, I mentioned about why we have lost a new to the forum member, a couple of new people requested information about
1 a Sharp TV, and lots of us diverted away.
We all know that Fred Drift comes in but we do tend to start nit picking each other.

I myself was guilty of this against The Prof, when I first joined the forum , especially about nose weights and heights of tow balls, and will apologise to The Prof, if I offended him.

Let's not let the forum go down hill,,by back biting each other,
Let us help newcomers to caravanning, who ask questions without Fred Drifting too much.

And I prefer Gurnet to Rock Salmon.

I have no objection to Fred Drift or being corrected, but I get annoyed at unnecessary nit picking and unfortunately I retaliate and when I do it is not always in the nicest manner as I feel it is a personal attack and the person is trying to humiliate me. Different cultures?

Trust me, having participated on other caravan forums, this one is the tamest by far!

Belonging to forums/Facebook groups for various interests of mine, I do find anything relating to caravans does seem to attract the "I have to shout loudest" and "you do it different therefore you are wrong" attitudes by some.

The Toyota car forum to which I belong (not FB) you can discuss anything including politics and there is still harmony. Similar with the FB groups to which I belong, but unwritten rule is that no political comments to be posted.

I'm a member of several forums where politics is "banned" - but politicians keep interfering in cars, roads and caravans making it sometimes difficult to discuss the subject matter without bring politics into it - this is where the value of good moderators comes into play, allowing the necessary political input that's on topic but stamping on any political thread drift. In that context PCf moderators are quite good.

One forum I used to use allowed political discussion but the members weren't typical of the general public so discussion was heavily skewed one way.

I think it’s okay to criticise or discuss decisions by Government , or use a Department’s name, but do not like thinly veiled barbed innuendo against individual politicians. It only serves to chip away at the publics perception of politics and politicians, and for better or worse what is the alternative to democratically elected government?

All one needs to do is read the respected broadsheets to deter mine how good or bad a minister is at the job and at the moment one or two really stand out at how bad a job they are doing! Very sad!

This thread seeks to find out views of members related to the Forum discussions. I’m well aware of the views expressed both in broadsheets and tabloids, but it doesn’t mean agree those views appearing on the Forum. So I will not comment further.

Well done Hutch 👏You have started the “Mea Culpa “ thread I mentioned .
Thank you for your observations.

Lord Braykewynde left the Forum a long time ago because of the incessant back biting, I know better, my cats blacker , must have the last word , patronising and condescending replies etc.

Sadly there are those who are never wrong but then that’s what makes a Forum .

I have actively and deliberately started new threads to encourage participation and open discussion . It is good there are different views but sadly the finger waving and key board warrior syndrome appears. Let’s refocus and deal with the OP question.

Hutch is right. Time for reflection, less aggression, and more understanding for another’s view. For my misdemeanours I forgive myself😜

Up the PCv Forum👏👏👏

I find a little drift to be helpful and adds to interest and diversity. Particularly after the original OP has been satisfied. Keeping this within reason is the issue for me. I find that on this forum, all is mostly controlled very well by the mods. I am, however not familiar with the black ice thread. Sounds like it over-drifted.

I think it would be nice to have the OP always sticking as a header keeping posters on track as happens in some forums.

This is probably a big software change and unlikely to happen.

John
