Peugeot 407 SW HDi

hello all,

I'm thinking of buying a 407 136HDi SW. What is the max tow weight of this car as I am getting conflicting reports on Whattowcar.com.

It gives me a match of 78% but says that the caravan is 330kg too heavy!

Are they a good tow car?

Many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

You need to look on the Peugeot web-site, on in an owners manual, and discover the following information:

1. The "Gross Train Weight" and the "Gross Vehicle Weight" - the difference between these is the maximum trailer weight you can legally tow.

2. Then look for the "Maximum braked trailer weight" in the owners manual or Peugeot web-site - this should be the same as the info from 1, but it could be lower - and you need to check this too.

Certain 407 SW diesel models have a restricted tow-weight (around 1300 kg) whereas other models have a more respectable 1600 kg limit - since the body is identical, the reduced weight is probably an engine cooling issue.

And that's probably what WhatTowCar is trying to tell you - the weight ratio seems OK, but the model you've chosen has the restricted maximum tow weight...

Thanks Rob,

I accidentally looked at the figures for an automatic version, when retried with the manual version there was no problem with the match showing 81%. There must be a lower tow limit for the auto.

Thanks

Steve
