Hello.
New to the forum, having just bought a 2012 Bailey Pegasus Ancona II.
I am after opinion , no doubt others have been in the same boat.
It has Powrtouch Classic movers, probably from new, they are in dire condition, remote works, they are stiff to move and they dont really move the van before giving up. By the looks of it they could do with a complete overhaul.
Looking at the website i reckon the cost of replacing motors etc woud easily top £450... Having looked around, towsure/halfords have movers for £600.
So , do i refurb the Classics, or scrap them and get some halfords ones ?

If you can fit it yourself a Powrtouch freedom the successor to the Classic is £649 delivered. Powrtouch have good warranty plus excellent customer service. What make are Halfords mover.

Thanks for the reply 👍 Halfords have emove for £649 and Towsure have movemaster for £600.
Will be fitting myself, so o guess that it makes sense to completely replace as opposed to repairing👍

First, as the movers "give up" when moving the van are you 100% sure its not a battery or connection issue. The motors don't inherently "lose torque" if they get the power to them.
The stiffness to apply them, given the clearances is set right [19-20mm from memory], is likely to be a lack of lubrication of the few moving bits, a good clean and re lube should fix that.

Agreed, I am going to take them off a take them apart (because i lke that stuff🤣).
I have a feeling that a good clean and grease will ease things, bettery is on charge tonight so we will see.
Just wanted to gauge if they were worth playing with at all, or just replace.

I have the power touch, evolution single axle on my 2013 Coachman, early in its life the MM was used a lot not so much recently, a good cleaning of the sliding parts of the MM with degreaser and then using motorcycle chain lube. The brushes I believe are fairly easy to replace, so before spending £500 it might be worth a good look at your classics.

You could always try and drive the motors by connecting a battery directly to the motors with the wheel jacked up , the connectors are larger than the standard 6.3 mm being 9.3mm . doing this in situ can evaluate the motors performance. As others have said a poor battery will shut down the system , I think on the base unit an led will flash a code to indicate undervoltage.

If they move the caravan then give up,suggests you need a new battery ideally a 110 amp one, I had and Emove on a caravan three before the previous one and that only lasted just about 5 years and gave up and could not get any spares. I then fitted the Powrtouch Classic to the caravan. Then took it off and put on the next caravan which was still working trouble free 10 years later when the caravan was sold . Present caravan new 3 years ago I had the Powrtouch automatic Evolution fitted. If your Classic has not had a lubrication yearly suggest you give it a good overhaul and a new battery.

Two points:-
When the OP presses a button on the remote does one LED light or do they all light up? If they all light up (and/or the mover works for a less than a minute and stops) it could be as simple as the remote battery is shot;
I serviced my own mover some years back and I would suggest that when the OP has cleaned the motor slide tray he should lubricate it with Waxoyl. This is a wax based product that lubricates but also stops rust and it will prevent the tray getting clogged up with muck in he future.
