We have a small caravan and the sink is next to the hob. There's limited worktop space and the drainer goes partly over the glass hob top. To make more use of the glass hob top without damaging it we got a bigger version of one of these. It covers the glass hob top completely and cushions anything we put down on it.

With all these ideas - a base line weight for the van. Take it to a weigh bridge, and find out how much payload you _really_ have before you are overweight.

Did that recently and discovered I was lot more overweight than expected. Switched to a LiFeP04 battery fitted with anderson connector so it is quick to disconnect. That now travels in car, which reduced weight in van by 28kg compared to AGM. Another 17kg by throwing spare wheel in car.

We went from Pb to LiFePO4 and saved about 10KG. It lives under the floor under the bed so we dont take it out to travel. However, if we need the additional van payload, the spare wheel does come out and ride in the car boot.
Various sizes and lengths of string and rope are always useful at some point. They take up so little space but can be worth their weight in gold.
Of course, learning to tie a few significant knots may help a great deal at some point.
My two favorites for general use are the 'Prussic' knot, and the 'Truckers hitch'.
The prussic will take you 5 mins to learn, and you'll probably always remember it...... The truckers hitch may take a few minutes longer and require a good few repetitions.
There are thousands of other knots but these have gotten me out of a fix on several occasions, so I recommend them highly.
YouTube is the best learning resource for all things knotty.
