What a pleasant sie this is! A bit chilly here at the moment but the weather has been dry. It's good to be on a site where you can walk to pubs and restaurants...makes a change from getting the car out. Leeds, Harrogate, coast and dales are all within fairly easy reach. Of course York itself has great attractions. Downside, the fair across the river is a bit noisy in the evenings, quietens down about 11pm. Better go as this is my daughter's internet card and she's coming back from the shower block!

Hi Butler,

You're right it is a great site. Glad you managed to get a pitch, from posts I've read it appears to be a difficult site to get on. It seems to be booked well in advance.

Been a few years since I was there. I found the museum, can't remember it's name, very varied and interesting. It's the one just over the bridge, across the road to the left, close by a large tower. Worth a visit

You mean the Castle Museum, adjacent to Cliffords Tower. It's the one with the Victorian streetscene in it. Well worth a visit unlike the Jorvik Museum which isn't.

Also walk the walls, is possible to get most of the way around York on the walls and makes a pleasant walk in springtime whilst all the daffs are out.

Yes, that's the one. Really well worth visiting,we didn't go in till after lunch and really struggled to get round it all before it closed.

Also agree about the Jorvik center, what a disappointment that was. Queued up outside for ages, paid the best part of thirty quid for two adults and one child and was back out on the pavement in about half an hour.

Well we are back now. Had a great time. Absolutely love the North. It is such good value for money. Talking of which, do try a Pub called The Maltings. Fantastic value for money and well worth it's entry in the Good Pub Guide. Next year we shall certainly 'do' the Museum and the Rail Museum. Can't wait. When can we book from? Best wishes, Butler

If you want to book this site, get in early when the bookings open in December as the weekenders will soon snap up all available dates. I would also give the site a direct call, as I had to cancel a weeks stay last year, three weeks before going, and this did not show on the online bookins as a free space for the period, I did a check for availability just out of curiosity.

While there in March, I over heard the warden telling someone there where some free nights available when he inquired about staying longer. On the same note, I have seen them turn away motor homes that have arrived on speck with no availabile spaces.

So do check direct, you may be lucky.

Brian
