It has taken the NHS website almost a week to get the local hub on their site, which seems rather strange.
Prior to today I kept getting directed to places as far afield as Epsom Racecourse !!!!!

Well if people do live in these remote off places! Good news though and less hassle. Strange how some areas are arranging second appointments but others aren’t. We come in the latter category.

The difference in progress is almost certainly due to local issues. I'm sure no one would want to suggest that areas that are ahead should slow down to allow all the other areas to catch up.
 
I see in today’s papers that one idea fir gradually easing the lockdown restrictions is for pubs and restaurants to be allowed to open in April but not to serve alcohol. Whilst I could accept going for a meal without a drink, if the pub where we meet friends can’t sell alcohol we would probably get together at one of our houses. One anonymous source briefed that the discussion came about because pubs and restaurants were hot spots. Yet only a week ago I read that the real hot spots were offices, household mixing aided and abetted by secondary school pupils. Hospitality, construction, manufacturing and transport combined did not outweigh the “ hot spots” by a large measure. Who can you believe? What has been consistent is that household mixing has regularly been reported as a prime source of infection.
 
We found that pubs around us were one of the safest places to visit, but I guess this does not apply in towns and cities where it is a free for all.
 
I agree with Buckman. Our local had strict distancing track and trace etc. Beers delivered to your table. City centre and university towns are different . Shame we all have to be judged by those who don’t follow the rules😥

Can you support your claims with any good references as your comments run counter to the scientific advise. Certainly ordinary cloth face coverings are of questionable use. As I understand it the prime purpose of the masks are to reduce the likelihood of your aerosol infecting those around you. Hole size isn’t the sole criteria as it’s also the depth of the matrix of intertwining holes. Medical grade masks properly fitted reduce patient to practitioner infection.

From a CDC document:

The COVID-19 particle is indeed around 0.1 microns in size, but it is always bonded to something larger. “There is never a naked virus floating in the air or released by people,” said Linsey Marr, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech who specializes in airborne transmission of viruses.

The post on here from a member on here regarding how useless masks are seems to be from someone who is posting untrue information of the sort spread by anti vaccination people etc etc, the post followed it by OC rebuffs what has been said from reputable sources so I’m wondering if this sort of post should be more at home on online chat forums with other fake news.

Got my first vaccination today at the hub in Newport, just a 10 minute drive away from home.

The setup was brilliant with plenty of staff to keep everyone informed of what was happening and directing people to the various places they needed to go to.

The vaccination givers were a mixture of NHS staff and Army medics and they were very friendly and reassuring.

It is times like this that just show how life "should" be like, people looking after each other with smile on their faces and kind words and actions.
 
I see that there’s conjecture in today’s papers that social distancing and face masks may have to continue to the autumn. That I can live with. But the comments about grandparents may still not be “allowed to hug their grandchildren “ would seriously undermine anyone’s confidence in the vaccines. Probably another misguided ministerial uttering, or media hype. Whilst we have been abiding by government regulations and guidance thus far, I suspect that we could become rule breakers. If there’s a prospect of opening some forms of hospitality then for two pensioners ( both jabbed) whose daughter has also been jabbed, to not hug their grandkids is fatuous.

I agree but I think the government are concerned that there may be a chance one of the grandkids is carrying the virus which they then pass onto you although you have had the vaccination. You may not be affected, but you could carry it to pass it onto someone else thus spreading the virus. Just a thought.
 
Had the jab yesterday and the system was very much the same as Parksy. It was a bit overly complex though getting to the actual jab with three different people asking questions and filling in the computer system. Still I am happier now that it is done, and no it did not hurt.

Prof Van Tam in an interview at the weekend confirmed that very point. Post vaccination there is no current evidence that says you cannot be a carrier.

Understand but as most epidemiologists seem to think it’s going to be around for some years yet, where does that leave us. Protected but isolated. If the most vulnerable groups ie down to 50/clinically vulnerable are jabbed then those below are at much lower risk of serious illness, more akin to flu or less. And with the annual flu we aren’t advised to stay away from people, especially loved ones.

PS and when vaccines become available there should be nothing to stop under 50s paying fir a private vaccination if they are not given by the NHS schemes

Couldn’t agree more Clive. I haven’t seen my grand kids for 8 months. Sadly a lot of people don’t believe in the vaccination and that will help to perpetuate the virus in all its guises.
