Hello All

A while since I've posted, but still here.
We have decided to go to france for a week in August next year and I'm looking for somewhere I can get some use out of our bikes. Any suggestions on a good cycling area would be welcome from all of the knowledgable contributors on this forum.

Kind regards

Scouse Ian

The Ile de Re is very good for cycling as is the Ile d'Oleron, both islands off the West Coast. Further south between Bordeaux and Biarritz there are lots of cycleways linking the various resorts along the coast.

Cycling along the canals in Burgundy might be a good option for a week. For longer, try the Languedoc area - there are now several Voie Vertes (see website http://www.voiesvertes.com/) with some very interesting cycling, (http://www.languedoc-voie-verte.com/stpons.htm) generally along disused railway tracks. The route is discussed, along with interesting stops and places to see along the routes - and we stayed near one of the access points at St Pons de Thomieres, on a Camping Cheque site. You can also cycle along the Canal du Midi and the various smaller subsidiary canals! .
My son and half a dozen friends cycled all the way from Cherbourg to Biarritz this summer, using mainly Voie Verte!

I can second David Klyne s advice about the Il de Re. We round off our trip to Spain each year with 7 -10 days cycling on the island and like it more each year. The network covers the whole island and if you chose a site in the middle of the island such as around La Couarde and it is possible to park up for the entire stay and just use the bike for shopping and sightseeing.
