Darrell,

Having worked with Audi for a number of years & my speciality is engine management systems, from what I can gather is that the problem with Kia is that the eninge management ECU set up varies from car to car let alone batch to batch!

I was recently made redundant so "lost" my beloved Audi as my company & tow car....so what did I choose as my daily & tow car.....2005 (55 plate) Sorento 2.5 XS Manual! & yes one of the first things I have done is fit one of Taff's power boxes, not for out & out ooomph but to get the best torque figures to enable the sorrie to tow at its best.

Pre power box fitment my mpg figures were solo (over 1000 miles) 41.59 mpg & yes I do drive it like an old fart after all its my hard earned dosh that pays for the fuel! & 25.23 towing (over 74 miles) not towed yet with the power box fitted, but solo (over the last 750 miles) mpg is 41.44 mpg, a slight reduction but the car is so much more responsive its like driving a different car! I'm going to try it tugging the van before I back off the power box setting.

Driven sensibly the Sorrie still wont be the most economical one around, but for one of the best tow cars on the planet...get yourself a Sorrie you wont be disapointed!
George ,

I've had Taff's Powerbox 3 years now and since the initial set up I haven't touched it. Why do you want to wind yours down? Taff told me to keep winding it up, then going to max rpm and seeing when or if the engine cut out. Then wind down until engine no longer cut out.

I'd say it's on 50% but the numbers of course mean nothing , being specific to each application.

I just wondered how you set yours up?

Cheers

Hi All

This mpg saga has been aired at great length on UK Sorento Forum.I have had two Sorento's over the past five years. The first 2004 XE 2.5 Auto and my present car 2006 Facelift XT VGT 2.5 Auto.I know this is sad but I have recorded every single gallon of Diesel used in both vehicles. I tow a twin axle Lunar 1600Kg maximum mass, and I am a low mileage user and lots of short journeys, longer journeys tend to have the caravan in tow.

I only do about 7000miles per annum (retired).

Like Steve W my average mileage over 5 years is 22 Miles per gallon.

Love the car and I am a steady driver most of the time, 168 BHP VGT tows a dream. PS the results from both vehicles were about the same.

Regards Jim

Jim,

I'm glad you are sad in a way cos it makes my old Shogun 3.5 petrol look quite good - I, like you am retired and my shoggy is only used for short trips and towing horseboxes and the 1.5T van. I have not zeroed the fuel computer for about a year now and it has settled at 21MPG; allowing for error and the higher price of diesel our fuel costs are virtually identical.

I used to commute over 100 miles a day in various modern small diesel cars and hatchbacks(renualt, peugot and Citroen)and got about 45 -50 MPG in all of them - how anybgody can get 45MPG in a two ton 4x4 is really beyond belief!
