jim

I have a 2006 V70 D5 Geartronic, had it since last August. allI can say it tows my Coachman VIP 460 with ease. I get 40 plus mpg solo and 27 towing. great towcar.

I have a 2004 D5 geartronic, all the way to lake garda last year, did not miss a beat. 45 solo, just under 30 towing my pageant bordeaux. A lovely car.

I've towed for the past 3 years( even down to Biarritz ) with a 2005 V70D5 manual. My current van mtplm is 1500kg and the previous one was 1475kg.

It was without doubt the best towcar I've had. Very, very economical. I say 'was' because last week I changed it for the new model V70 D5.

Says it all I suppose.

Hi

I have to agree with everything thats been said.

Up until 1 mth ago i towed a Bailey Senator T/A MTPLM

1700KG Unladen 1390KG with a 2004 V70 D5 AWD & it was a dream.

Best tow car i have had in 15 years. Cruised along motorway comfortably in 6th gear at 55-60MPH & returned about 28MPG.

You could fly up hills with it no problem

Just changed to a XC90 only because were having a new caravan in April with a MTPLM of 1900Kg. Otherwise wouldnt have changed.

Good Luck

David

We have now done 50K miles with our 53 V70 D5 Geartronic, most of which was towing a Lunar Lexon EB (about 1400KG). It has been a great towcar, Its 163 bhp means it's able to keep up with traffic, overtake HGVs with extreme ease and yet return 28/30 mpg on UK motorways, though somewhat less on continental ones. The only niggle is the poor turning circle with 17" wheels and the 'stealer' servicing costs. This is made up for with the build quality, extreme comfort and reliability. Cruising with the auto and cruise control is so relaxing. It was due to be changed at the end of 07, but don't feel the need to try other cars.

We have not had a V70, but our neighbour does and loves it. Over the last 37 years we have owned 10 different Volvos of varying types, at the moment we have a 13 year old 940 and a 1 year old XC90 Geartronic, which we are very pleased with so far. We usually keep our Volvos a long time, so build quality and reliability are important.

And they have all been good towcars!

This topic has been most helpful as we are thinking of changing our car to a Volvo v70 d5 2.4 and were not sure until reading the reports in this forum.
