truma water heater

i was out testing the van making sure everything worked before the season started but when i turn the hot water on the water still going out the drain valve (the cold is working perfect), had a cascade before and dont know anything about truma.i do have the drain switch turned off

Raymond, next to the Ultrastore, in the locker where it is located, there is a small yellow lever valve.

To close it, it should be laying flat, to open it should be upright.

dont think so,i only have the hot water tank ,got no manual with the van,but i phoned swift group and they were very helpful and they re sending me a new manual for my van free of charge , which i thought was very good of them.hopefully the answer might be in it(its a abbey 316 2002)

The drain tap has 3 positions , upright open, flat either way to drain. Try putting it flat in both positions , if when you try to fill the water heater it just drains out then I would say it is the drain valve which is the problem.

Is the water coming from the drain or from the clear air bleed pipe connected to the hot water outlet?

This pipe connects via a one way valve which should be upright to work correctly and the pipe then turn 180degs out through the floor.

The purpose of the pipe is to allow air into the tank to speed up draining, it's common though for the valve to get pushed over sideways or simply stick open, either way it will allow water to 'drain' outside when a hot taps run.

my cold water runs normal but when i turn the hot on it just goes straight out the hot drain

I know your colds ok, I'm talking about the hot water outlet on the water heater?

Are you sure it's the drain or as I said the air bleed?

Hello Raymond,

Did it freeze in the recent cold spell? If so, a drop of water could have frozen and damaged the valve.

It can't be the drain lever, this drains hot or cold water,

maybe the pressure relief/safty valve, assuming they is one?

No, the drain pipes the one connected to the yellow handled tap, the air bleed is automatic so has no tap.

It should be a thin clear pipe leading off from a 'tee' connection on the hot water outlets plastic pipe connector to the heater and then disappearing straight through the floor.

gary the neighbours must think i m mad ,itook a look and theres no water coming out of the clear valve,still going uot the other one

Thanks Mike for a link to a picture but it seems that's not the problem

Going back to the drain valve then, it is also a pressure relief valve, perhaps then the pumps giving to much pressure? (that should be obvious from excess pressure from the cold tap?), or infact it's simply faulty and does indeed need replacing

I'd leave it while morning though Ray lol

In order to stop hot water coming out the cold tap( used to go on for 30 seconds) my dealer did a sort of a bypass mod . So instead of having one yellow drain tap I now have two. Thus both must be closed to work correctly.

Do you have two maybe??
