vectra 1.9cdti 150 problems

has anyone else had engine management problems with this car while towing.mine s been in for repair once under warranty but it has now acted up again after towing over the bank holiday.

if yours is the same did they manage to cure the problem for good or does it still act up ?

im at my wits end with it but when driving solo it drives lovely so it would be a shame to get rid.

any comments, advice or donations would be greately appreciated

thanks

If you have had a bypass relay fitted to stop the bulb failure system thinking a bulb has failed when it is just a trailer or van connected, you may have to have the dealer tell the computer on board what it's looking at.A chap at work had the same problem with a Merc, visit to the dealer sorted it out.If your car has multiplex wiring thats what it will be. Progress using computers!! I don't think so. Bring back distributor points and starting handles!!!

thanks peter, unfortunately its not that.its somethink to do with the emmisions,as when its towing it creates alot more of them.back to vauxhall again me thinks!

hi i had the 2.2sri diesel vectra and tell you the truth it was the worst car ever had i bought from new 53 plate and it went back that many times for the spanner light i changed it for the mondeo 2ltr 130diesel and im more than happy with this for towing the last fault they diagnosed for the light coming on and going to safe mode while towing was the turbo charger had failed all in all for the spanner light coming on it went back for repair about 5 times and for other faults about the same

My brother-in-law has a SAAB with the same engine and I`ve called it Beckham.

It spends more time in `limp home` mode than it does running!

Just traded in an Astra 150 CDTi SRi Estate.

Ours imploded at just over a year old, causing five grands worth of damage to the fuel system. Lost faith in it after that.

Good towcar, but not well built and not that satisfying to drive or particularly economical.

Now have a Skoda vRS 170 TDi.

Hi folks guess I will keep my 51 plate vectra 2.2 dti a lot longer, It must have the last of the original engines, as I know that they have changed to the Fiat supplier. Methinks that some of the engine management systems could be at fault.

Bit like my consumer unit at home, that replaced the old fuse box.On the odd occasion normally during nightime , some light bulb gives up the ghost , it plunges the whole house into darkness, other times when a light fails it carrys on as normal.

Last year I was thinking about buying a Saab 9-5 with the same engine.............until I went on a Saab forum and read about the numerous ECU problems!

I have towed all year with my 56 plate 19cdti sri and to be honest it pils like a train and i cant fault it.

we dont have a vectra, but we do have a stillo with 140 jtd the same unit i think as a cdti but with the older common rail.up till 2months ago been faultless.loads of pulling power even before it was chipped.but then, came back from cornwall it started the hole car went beserk ,lights going on and off ,horn working on its own, refused to start, went to fiat, turns out the caravan lights had either backfeed or overloaded the bodycomputer according to fiat, but with no trailer module fitted ,thats that ,it even fried the steering ecu, also the same part as late vauxhauls i believe.in its defence it is my fault for not having a trailer module fitted.

The most common EDC problems occure in the wet,one is the overboost valve, gets a good soaking of the road, and D4 connector gets damp, also the turbo inlet trunking clip goes slack then the air flow sensor gives a bad reading.hopefully this may help someone. cheers seth.

I'm afraid I cant help with your problem, though I have been towing with my 55 reg 1.9 CDTI Vectra Estate without any problems since it was new 18 months ago. My unit is a Bailey Pageant Vendee S5. I write to encourage you that there is the potential of having a good towcar if the problem is sorted!

I have had exactly the same problems with my 04 2.2DTI, 15 times its been back to the main dealer, its had numerous parts fitted and new voltage parameters downloaded to the ecu, which still have not resolved the problem and to boot Vauxhall DO NOT CARE!!!

Be-grudgingly I was just about to get shut and I buy the newer 1.9cdti after several peeps told me its a totally different engine and they have had no problems pulling vans at 95%. Aren't I glad I read this.

Bye Bye Vauxhall!!

Anyone any experience of Volvo's V70 2.4 D5?

Cheers

hello Gazza, theres no probs with the engines them selves ,its just the ecu softwear.the engines go like trains.we regulary travel up the m62,and on the steepest stretch, windy hill it,ll hold top gear,65 mph.the main problem is the dealer back up,or should i say lack of it.i think they dont fully understand them themselves.or as you say cant be bothered ringing you back.proper frustrating.ive had my fair shear of problems to.needless to say we dont use it to tow now.

I have a 55 1.9CDTI (SRI) and had a problem whereby the engine went into emergency mode and lost all power. The problem was sorted out under warranty by dealer over 18 months ago and not had a problem since.
