The VIN plate is increasingly found on the driver's B-post rather than under the bonnet.

The visible VIN and bodyshell stamped only have the VIN number.

The VIN plate has Maximum Authorised Weight, Gross Train Weight, Front Axle Maximum Load, Rear Axle Maximum Load as well as VIN number, paint codes etc.

The A post (or pillar) is the windscreen surround and front-door hinge. The B post is where the front door ends / rear door starts. And the C post is where the rear door ends.

If it not on the post look on the floor just inside the drivers door there could be a small panel there that comes off.

All current vehicles should have THREE VIN number locations.

The VIN should be indelibly marked on a non-replaceable part of the bodyshell.

The VIN should be visible, through the windows from outside the vehicle, and be attached to a component not easily replaceable.

The VIN should be on the VIN plate, together with required weight information and details of manufacturer, in a defined location, usually the bonnet slam panel or the pillar at the rear of the driver's door.
