Why not? I bought second hand Alko lozenge and then the lock set separately. But I made sure that the lock set had been de=registered first so that I could then register it with Alko. But when touring I used a lighter Milenco wheel lock. Far less fiddly than Alko. But these days I would buy the Nemesis or Milenco equivalent and use that when touring and at home/storage.Is it a good idea to buy a second hand Alko?
Unfortunately, I need a number 43.I have an Alko lock and a No39 Lozenge for sale! (Bailey Phoenix)
The lock has been deregistered (email to prove it) and has two keys plus all the paperwork and the registration card with the vital number on it.
PM me if interested in either.
My new caravan comes with Al-ko wheel lock I have been told they easy to fit and someone else , says they can be hard , I see if the dealer can show me how it goes on when he drops it off at site.?Alko are very secure but can be awkward to fit. I use a Milenco on site but would have preferred a Nemesis at home in hindsight. As already said, check to see if your insurance has a preference stated.
If they are dropping the caravan off for you, why not get them to fit the lock. Easier for them to fit it than you so make it their problem. My new caravan comes with Al-ko wheel lock I have been told they easy to fit and someone else , says they can be hard , I see if the dealer can show me how it goes on when he drops it off at site.?
If you have a mover they are easy to fit as you can alight the wheel with the chassis receiver by very small incremental movements. You know you have got it right when the bolt screws in very easily. If they are dropping the caravan off for you, why not get them to fit the lock. The AWS service technician will be doing that once a year so should not be an issue. If you have a mover they are easy to fit as you can alight the wheel with the chassis receiver by very small incremental movements. You know you have got it right when the bolt screws in very easily.
PS overtime the caravan can settle and this may tighten the bolt. So when going to take it off if it’s tight again just a slight touch on the mover will ease it off. Do not force it.
Hi Clive that what I would like do try the motor mover you have said the same thing what my caravan engineer said you got alight the wheel thanks for your input very much appreciated 🙏If you have a mover they are easy to fit as you can alight the wheel with the chassis receiver by very small incremental movements. It will be going into caravan storage when season ends so the owners will moving it and anything else they said no problem,The AWS service technician will be doing that once a year so should not be an issue.
Actually just took a caravan insurance out and this one wanted Hitch lock and Al-ko that meets there requitements 🙏Just be sure tgat any lock you decide to use meets tgecrequirements of yiur insurance company. Some insist on using an Alko lock. They can be a bit fiddly, but tjey are not that difficult to use.
Might be a bit tricky if you have to use a leveling ramp.If you have a mover they are easy to fit as you can alight the wheel with the chassis receiver by very small incremental movements. You know you have got it right when the bolt screws in very easily.

That would be my first choice if I had to fit a decent wheel lock. I only used the Alko at home or if at storage. But did carry it in case things changed on a trip. On site I used a lightweight Milenco.Might be a bit tricky if you have to use a leveling ramp.
I just went for the Nemesis. East to fit in any position and less faffing about in my opinion.
It's sod's law that a levelling block is usually needed on the nearside, the same side as the Alko - but I've got used to the routine of levelling using a ramp and then adjusting the wheel forwards or backwards using the mover - it doesn't affect the levelling much.Might be a bit tricky if you have to use a leveling ramp.

Would the L&L be suitable for long term usage on a seasonal pitch?Alko is no problem when the van is on a slope.
You fit the lock as normal then inflate the LocknLevel
Easy peasy.
