    Buying Caravan Tyres

Having mainly bought new caravans in the past I have recently bought a second hand one (2009) and want to make sure the tyres are OK. It is currently fitted with Kargomax 185 R14 C tyres which look in good condition but are likely to be at least 5 years old - but I can't see a date on them on...

Tesco points accepted for DFDS crossings Dover/Dunkerque and Newcastle/Amsterdam

Thanks for that Val - I didn't know that. We save the points for the tunnel but it takes us at least a year - should be considerably less for Dover/Dunkirk.

    Camping Sainte Claire

We have stayed there several times and can confirm it is an excellent site with a nice restaurant and pleasant surroundings. There is also a supermarket within walking distance. However.......last year we were amazed to see the "full" sign go up at about 6pm. We were one of the last to get in...

    Val d'Authie in Picardy

I have not stayed there but have been a regular visitor to Ferme des Aulne near by, which I can recommend. We usually try to stay there the night before catching a ferry from Calais or Dunkirk, or the tunnel.

    Doug King

Yes I have always thought of Doug as a genuine caravan enthusiast, not just someone doing a job, and I certainly wish him well for a full recovery

    Eurotunnel using Tesco vouchers

Hi Jo You may already be aware, but if you only have a small shortfall you can always top up with cash.

    French Leave, my latest Blog

Hi David I have just read your blog, which was interesting. It would be hard to comment here on the content which was long and detailed but I can see that it could be food for a very long chat should we ever meet up on a campsite! Funnily enough we were in the Dordogne area in September and...

    Caravan Club acquires Alan Rogers

Graham - I have heard the same comments from site owners although not seen them in writing as you have. I think that is probably why there is a turnover in sites accepting Camping Cheques. But don't forget, Camping Cheques is a French company - Alan Rogers and the Caravan Club are merely agents...

    Caravan Club acquires Alan Rogers

I can’t help thinking this is bad news. I have been travelling round Europe for 50 years now; starting with cycle Youth Hosteling in 1962, through motor cycle and car camping to caravanning. To me the great enjoyment of camping and caravanning is the ability to move on or to stay a bit longer at...

    Calais sites open all year

They don't advertize the fact, but "la bien assise" at Guine is open all year. They don't have many hard standings and they don't want to get the grass messed up, so they only take a few caravans, but if you give them a ring they will most likely reserve you a space.

    Wheelclamp in France

Lutz The incident I refer to was on my car, when I had a Kia Sorrento. It seems the continentals don't bother with locking wheel nuts on cars or caravans - but then I think it is only the British who are obsessed with alloy wheels anyway.

    CARAVAN FAULTS II

Quote from Prof John: "I am actually of the opinion that OP's confidence in the model of cooker must be shattered" You are right, but it's more than that - my confidence in the cooker manufacturer is also shattered, especially with their response to the dealer's request, although I accept...

    Wheelclamp in France

We use a Bulldog wheel hub lock. It is lighter and less bulky than a wheel lock and is very quick to fit. I use it in car parks and on site. I know the continentals don't bother but British insurance companies usually insist. I also notice that continentals don't bother with locking wheel nuts...

    Towing round Paris

Lesley I don't think finding the way is a problem, more the traffic situation and the necessity to swap lanes frequently. It depends whether you are happy to tow in those conditions. I have avoided Paris for quite a few years now and we usually take the route via Rouen, Evreux, Dreux...
