Double jabbed early on, it was about the only good thing about being NHS employee and having to work in Covid hot zones! Mrs Gozza had to wait for AstroZeneca due to allergies but she's now double jabbed as well. Gozza junior (19 and at university) has been jabbed once and has an appointment for jab 2.

Our local big shop is Sainsbury, I'd say mask wearing there is 50%, slightly better in the little Tesco Express. In B&Q yesterday 100% as far as I could see.

We're maintaining compulsory mask use at the hospital, because the virologists and infection prevention specialists say it's still necessary - we've had a few argumentative sorts who say we can't make them wear a mask because Boris says it's not compulsory any more - generally they change their minds when they're told we can't make them wear masks but our door teams can refuse them access to our premises.

My wife reacts so she attended a special case clinic Lutz. Really is a no brainer. They monitored her for an hour after the jab. Superb care and free tea coffee, biscuit and parking. Well done Lincs PCC and Boston pilgrim hospital.

Thanks for the words of comfort, but my wife is scared of any vaccination. I think she must have spent ages during the last months in the internet reading about and talking to people who suffered serious side effects. Even her sister was hospitalised after her second jab and her nephew was out of action for 3 days.

My eldest son is the same, 39 years old, but was insistant that we got ours ASAP.

If as stated yesterday at the press conference we are doing so well in our freedoms , why are our statistics so bad compared to most European countries. Is it the Delta variant alone, or have we arrived late at the party for vaccination of younger people down to 12 year old. I really hope that if “ light measures” are required they come in early enough to have an effect, not like last years November “ firebreak” which did virtually nothing. Here’s a comparison with the same period last year. It’s the hospitalisations that concerns me as it is taking away medical and support staff that could be treating other medical conditions and the back log. Just giving another £5 bn to the NHS for the next 6 months isn’t going to miraculously find the extra staff or facilities in such a relatively short timescale to make a difference. Although the deaths are not far removed from having an A320 crash per day.

In Scotland wearing a mask is still compulsory but seems to be ignored by many and cases have gone up quite seriously but have dropped off a bit in the last few days. What is quite clear is the people with problems are very nearly all the ones not vaccinated and the mind boggles at the stupid excuses used by these people for not getting it done. We still wear ours and use the hand wash and find the attitude of those who do not stupid in the extreme.

I think the government is putting more emphasis on the percentage of deaths for double jabbed compared to the unvaccinated. And to the reducing severity and length of hospital stays. As a greater proportion of the population are vaccinated the use of statistics evolves making direct comparisons with the previous year is a bit dubious.

But comparison with Germany and France and others who have now caught up with vaccinations shows it might have been safer for everyone to have gone to Europe for a holiday rather than promote Staycations here. Their figures like last year are much lower than ours. (TIC)

We have spent the past week in Somerset and in shops hardly anyone wore masks. We went to and radio Control aircraft show and while there decided to buy some soft serve ice cream. Cones and choc bar was handled with bare hands with no gloves in sight.
I was unsure whether to refuse the ice cream or just get on with it. Strangely enough that night both of us suffered with stomach pains with me being real bad an awake most of the night. Not sure if coincidence or what but ice cream did taste nice.

It so easy for every one to blame the Gov't when blessed with the benefit of hindsight, but none of us had enough information about the Virus when many of the critical decisions needed to be taken, and whilst the opposition will point the finger now, but if they had been in power at the time they would most likely have taken very similar decisions based on the limited information available at the time.

It is vitally important the actions of the authorities are looked at and reviewed not necessarily to apportion blame but to learn the lessons and to make contingency plans for teh future. But even having suggested there were lessons to be learnt, It does not necessarily mean the if another virus hits us, it will respond in the same way. Each new virus brings new challenges and it's a new learning process each time.

However there are some basic lessons about viral transmission where isolation protocols and the availability of PPE equipment that needs to be addressed and beefed up.

Prof. John Van Tamm and I agree that we shouldn't have taken our foot the brakes completely, and that there should still be some compulsion for maintaining social distancing and the use of masks to further reduce the spread of the infection. We are seeing increases in hospitalisations again and we are about to enter the annual increase of influenza's, and this could disguise some of the Covid infections.

We are not out of the woods yet; The vaccination process should be praised, it has been a fantastic effort and it has already saved thousand of people from being harmed or killed by the Covid virus., But all this good effort could be undone by a cohort of people who for non medical reasons, are refusing to take the vaccines, or to exercise good social distancing and protection measures, who could still derail the benefits of the vaccinations.

Whenever the Virus manages to infect a victim, it mutates a little and if it's passed on it might just have mutated in some way to defeat the effectiveness of the vaccinations. It's a slight possibility but that is how all the new variants have arisen.

The only complete solution to a virus is to remove all means for it to find a new victim so it can't be passed on. That is total 100% isolation for the victim. But the problem is this virus can infect without producing immediate symptoms and that means it can spread before its recognised and contained.

This is where general a social distancing and hygiene and vaccinations can work by reducing the routes for infection, but they will never stop it completely which is why we have to adjust to living with it at some level.

We can only hope that through mutation the virus progressively looses its virulence and severity of effect, and that the Bio Tech,s can find effective means of management of symptoms when someone is infected.

A very good friend who is almost 70 and fit recently contracted Covid 19 and also got pneumonia. We thought he was a goner, but he was able to go home 2 days ago to recover albeit slowly. He is in South Africa where the recovery rate seems to be quite high for some reason?

Always wear a mask when going inside to pay. Esso have had an app out for a couple of months that allows you to pay by the pump. Problem is that we have yet to find a fuel station where it actually works.
First time you use it you get 500 Nectar points so we would only use it for £10 as we use the CAMC Fuelpecker card for all our fuel transactions as we get £0.04 off each litre and have saved £152 since we started using the CAMC Esso Fuelpecker card.

After several (many) kids testing positive for Covid at my daughters school they have gone back to mask wearing in lessons and around the campus in corridors etc. Our region (Hinkley and Bosworth) is now in the top 5 hotspots for covid. Our Schools went back 2 weeks earlier than the rest of the country and the local health chief says that our rise in numbers is due to the high number of kids and infecting their parents.
One of my daughters close friends tested positive, but under new rules my daughter did not have to isolate.

In other news, a family friend in his 70's recently went to visit his daughter who lives abroad. He caught Covid over there and despite being double jabbed lost his fight yesterday morning.

Sorry to hear the sad news. Our daughter was telling us last night that a friend of hers, early fifties, was rushed from Wiltshire to a London hospital for urgent treatment of Covid. She had been double vaccinated too. But overall the vaccination is still giving effective protection and reduced hospitalisation and deaths. The other aspect she mentioned is a localised rise following school return a week and a half ago. A number of her NHS colleagues are off work looking after the children.

Strangely it is safer to go out in the caravan to a CL than to go visiting. We only use the facilities in our caravan so stick to fully serviced pitches so no interaction at facility except for Elsan point.

I'm vulnerable, although not extremely but with one child in high school, the other an a city FE College and wife a teacher in a really deprived city school and me being expected to return to the office several days a week I know it's only a matter of time
