CRIS Registration problem

We have a 1986 Avondale Mayfly and I am trying to get it CRIS Registered but they keep asking me for the Serial Number. I'm not sure where to find it ? They say that it should be stamped somewhere on the ALKO chassis frame but unless I can get on the ground under the caravan to look I've no idea whereabouts it is.
Any ideas ?

Many Thanks
Les

That's the first time this method was used as Dusty pointed out.there are instances of certain manufacturers have a "VIN" number stamped somewhere/Anywhere on the chassis,no hard and fast rule pre 92

Likely stamped on A frames and underneath the cover. Our Caravans we had in the 70’s and 80’s was on the topside of the frame on the left side looking from front of caravan.

Is there a serial number listed on the plate by the entry door that gives the weights for the van? On my previous van there was also a plate in the centre front of the axle cross member.
You should be able to insure it without the registration from the model and year of manufacture which may be relevant to your concern.

Yes, it is to do with getting it Insured. Having found a Company that will cover older 'vans the first thing they asked was does it have a VIN or something to identify it... But thanks for coming back to me.

Les .
13 years ago someone wrote this on another forum. Same make model and year as yours. Note the VIN number and its location.
This one looks like it was made in 1985 but got registered as a 1986 one. Not uncommon.

I'm hoping someone can help me with a question about my newly purchased Avondale Mayfly. The sellers were unsure of the age or weight of the caravan so all I have to go on is the VIN which is shown on a metal plate inside above the door and etched on every window. It reads 1 85/0362.
