Hi, my name is Kath, I live in Torrevieja, Costa Blanca, Spain with hubby and 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I am a new member and have been searching for an Icon that says New Post under "New Members, talk to us - please" but couldn't find one so this is all I could think of doing, hope its OK sending it to you. We have been thinking about buying a Motorhome, I want the smallest with "everything" practical you need but hubby wants a larger one. I am worried about the size regarding me actually being able to drive it. So not sure which one we will go for in the end. Maybe I am thinking too far ahead but I had an idea of buying one with room to accommodate a Renault Twizy car for us to store and use to get around at our holiday destinations as opposed to using the Motorhome. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you.

Hi my name is Colin. I live in Bridlington; where I have lived for the past three years. I have a Ford T720 Tribute motorhome; which I bought new back in 2012. My first experience of motorhoming was back in 2013 when I lived in my motorhome for several months; from January until August. I haven't used the motorhome much in the last 18 month due to ill health; but hope to start using it again this year. I was searching a few technical problem; and the various links eventual brought me to "Practical Motorhome". I am looking forward to posting those issues shortly. But I also look forward to seeing the post from other people in the forum. I am looking forward to receive your helpful advice; and also share from my limited knowledge.
Regards, Colin

Hi I live in Spain and I am thinking of buying a 2005 Hymer 654, 70,000kms and would appreciate any info before I bite the bullet! We used to tow a van about 30 years ago but have done nothing since. We are hoping to return to caravanning, all things being equal!

Sorry wrong forum
Hi I’m colin I haven’t got a motorhome as yet my wife is disabled (walking just) so probably look to u for help on access issues . We live in cornwall .im at o.a.p. Nearly so looking to buy something relatively soon. I don’t understand the road tax situation. Insurance seems cheap enough . We’re only looking for a two birth. Can’t afford a new one although the elddis at 37k doesn’t look too bad ...disabled and vat .. marquis don’t do it so I won’t be buying from them on principle West country motorhomes do it so may consider a new one if entrance issues can be sorted well that’s me and the wife so hopefully I will enjoy reading answers to all those nagging questions

Hi Colin and a warm welcome to the Practical Motorhome forum. Thanks for posting and sharing your story.

We presume you're aware of this which may help you?

There are also companies out there that specialise in making motorhomes accessible, so it might be worth speaking to one of them and seeing what solutions they can suggest.

We've run a number of articles over the years (like this) about people who have disabilities but have adapted their ’vans to suit and who've enjoyed amazing adventures. We hope you're able to do the same.

Thanx for that I was aware that there had been changes my wife has just gone onto pip .until 2022 so we were aware of tightening up .. I wasn't aware that companies could take it,on their selves not to,take part in the vat scheme. marquis motorhomes in their adverts claim to be the largest motorhomes company in the country ? It seems bad that companies can decide, not to take part in the scheme authorised by,the government. I also imagine that there must of been cases where. Companies have been persecuted for making a decision that was not correct. It's good that the government have put the onus on the disabled person /carer although I would of thought this would /should of been the case in the first instance colin

Hi, From sunny France. Just joined the group. My wife and I have been living in France for the last twenty years and enjoying this great country. My wife is French but I don't hold that against her. We live at the foot of the Massif Central Department 42. 3.5 hours drive to Marseilles. 4 hours to Geneva. I'm just in the process of changing our Motor Home. It goes on Friday and we collect the new to us the following week. Can't wait to start traveling again. We normally do long weekends during the warmer weather down to the South of France. We have been Motor Homers for the last two years. We did have one before back in 2001 but sold it when we built our new home.
Look forward to perhaps meeting some of you on the road.

Hi

We have recently bought a 2014 Bailey 740 which we love however I can see us changing it in the next couple of years for one with twin beds that make up a king ( not the lounge version )

Is there anywhere that you can put in all your wants for your Motorhome and suggestions are made? There are so many choices out there it takes an age to sort through them all.

Hi and thanks for posting. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on buying your Bailey.

You're right, there's such a massive choice out there, from brands and base vehicles, to layouts and specs. There's not a resource like you suggest, I'm afraid.

Well, our old van has gone. We were sad to see it drive off down the road. Had lots of pleasant memories . I'm sure we will get over it when we collect our new to us one tomorrow. Can't wait.

Hi Mike
How's it going with the new van? Maybe we'll bump into you (hopefully not literally!) on an Aire somewhere. We're on the Vendée, and planning to catch some stages of the Tour de France this year.

The Vendee is about a three hour drive from where we live. Some nice aires or wild camping stops along the canals along there. If you make it down as far as Roanne there are two very nice aires, either at Port De Roanne which is along side the canal. Nearly every other boat are English. Or you can park up in the free car park there, we sometimes go down there just for the weekend. Or there is Lac de Villrest. Both are on CAmperContact if you have the app.
The tour de France passes down the bottom of our road. Weather isn't too good at the moment. Should start to warm up next week. If your down this way do let me know.

The new van is working out fine, just changed the front brake pads. Got off to a horrible start with the van. I drove about three kilometers to the fuel station, I missed the turning so reversed back into a goods yard and managed to hit a Canopy which I couldn't see in the mirrors. Put a dent right on the corner of the roof. Goes in beginning of April to get it sorted. Hope this is not an omen as to how its going to continue. First mark I have put on a vehicle since I can remember.

Hi, Thought we'd introduce ourselves. We're John and Françoise , we live in Scotland and we have a much loved Weinsberg motorhome that we take all over Scotland and last summer we took to Norway. I am a keen windsurfer/ paddleboarder and fisherman and take all the kit with me when we go away. We've been motorhoming for over 10 years now , first with the children and now just us :cheer. This is our third motorhome but have always tended to stay in Scotland/England. After our trip abroad last summer we are now keen to try new horizons? any suggestions? Northern Spain appeals but we like beach location and not too crowded. Looking forward to reading of other people's adventures.

Hi John and Françoise, welcome to the forum and thanks for the intro.
Like you, we started motorhoming when the kids were with us - in our case, in a pop-up top VW camper. When they grew out of the top bunks we had a very old Transit-based coachbuilt, moving on later to a much more recent (then) Bedford.
When that became too cramped we had a few years of other types of holiday, but hen the joyful day came that they said "We don't really want to come on holiday with you anymore," we quickly treated ourselves to an old 2-berth hightop and set off again!
A legacy meant we could upgrade to a brand new hightop, which we had for nine years up to retirement last year. Now in France, we're running a lovely 2005 Bürstner.
So many memories of trips in the UK and across Europe, and still making more!
