On checking rules and regs on dvla page re towing it mentions 16th december 2021 as the date from which those that passed after 97 can tow a van or trailer heavier than 750kg on the roads, I had requested the info emails but have never received them so went hunting on the dvla pages and found the above date.

They have always been able to tow a trailer heavier than 750kg however they have been limited to a maximum train weight of 3500kg.

Here’s an extract from the U.K.GOV email I had before Christmas.
What changed on 16 December 2021
If you passed your car driving test from 1 January 1997, you’re now allowed to tow trailers up to 3,500kg MAM.

It should be pointed out that Dusty's post is quite correct but it only relates the permission the driver has. Lower limits will apply depending on the cars specification.

Spot on Prof. Let’s hope no one goes to the max without thinking. Nothing surprises me these days.
