Dolphins can live 40-60 years - so after a decision to no longer use captive dolphins they can't be released into the wild as they wouldn't survive so they live their lives out without being replaced.
There are organisations with a track record of releasing captive borne dolphins in to the wild, but it’s not an easy process. In some areas where dolphinariums have been closed the remaining ones have been relocated to a large area of fenced off sea, with resident staff to monitor their well-being until they die, or monitoring their suitability for release. The place in Tenerife takes pride in the new births that they have, which is a self sustaining way to never close it down.

We didn’t watch the dolphins as we prefer to see them in the wild.
Loro Park is very impressive though, the grounds are maintained to a very high standard and there’s plenty of other wildlife to see (I have added some photos to the gallery).
Currently sat in the hotel bar watching LFC vs Real Madrid.

Tomorrow I shall be mostly called Seasick Steve as we are off on a boat trip to see the dolphins off the south coast of the island.

The day at sea went well overall, and we did indeed spot some pilot whales and bottle nose dolphins, along with the very impressive Los Gigantes cliffs which were older even than some of us forum members ( 8 million years old🤣🤣🤣).
The weather gods were with us too, and as is my want I took some photos and deleted a few, including a stunner of the right elbow of a “Liverpool lass” as she barged me to get a photo on her pink glitter covered Samsung Galaxy phone, and a few others of the deck of the boat, the rails of the boat and my feet🤣🤣🤣…. I blame the movement of the sea for most of them.
Today has been a relaxing day including a walk along the sea front and a few more snaps which along with the dolphin adventure ones are now uploaded to the gallery.
Work never escapes me even on holiday and today I have had to make a call regarding some electrical contractors and the “mysterious failure of the car park lighting “ at one of the sites I look after - this only happened after they spent last week there doing the 5 yr electrical testing so methinks they may be able to “assist with our enquiries “🤣🤣🤣.
