My 68 plate sportage tpm,s are very sensitive, one wheel dropped 1 psi, suspect due to cold weather and threw up the dashboard warning ⚠️ light. Anyone else have the same?

Never had that occur on any car fitted with TPMS. As the weather seasons change I adjust the pressures accordingly but 1 psi seems overly sensitive.

It's not TPMS sensitivity - it's Boyles Law - the tyre pressure will naturally drop 1 psi for each 6 degree C drop in temperature - some places have had a 12 degree change from last week to this.

My VW is the same . The TPMS soon goes off as the tyres warm up. Or do as Clive suggests increase all by 1.

I've had a few Kia, s and the tpms are very temperament. Had to increase a few 5/6 psi to get the dashboard warning light to go off & then a few days later lower to correct pressure. Very strange indeed

What you don't state is how close to the lower limit the tyre was before the temperature dropped.

When winter cold starts all tyres need checking whilst still cold and inflated to the correct cold pressure. Then in the menu set them. Unless it comes considerably colder no Tyre Pressure light should come on again. If they are just left at summer setting they are prone to come on until traveled some distance to warm the tyres up.

Mine are set to 33 all year round but a couple of days back the temperature was just below 2degC and the TPMS reported 31psi but no warning was set.

Then general rule for tyre pressure is 2 psi for 10 degrees differential. So if Winter temperature when cold is 10 degrees lower than the tyre cold pressure in Summer they need 2psi adding to prevent the monitor light coming on.

I just set mine at 33psi all year around depending on weather conditions in summer or winter. Never had any spurious lights ever.

Set at 33, front left alarmed at 32, drove 20 miles and still alarmed. Put a couple of pounds in it and it cleared.
Many TPMS sensors actually step in increments of 10 kPa and this is then converted electronically to the nearest whole psi. 10 kPa is about 1.45 psi

I set my tyre pressures when there is no sun on the vehicle to 2.3bar all round if I'm not towing.
I then press the reset button on the dash, I believe it's standard fitment on all VAG cars with TPMS. This calibrates the system to the new pressures.
Actually it doesn't as the system has not a clue what the pressure is it's all done on rotation of the wheels using the ABS sensors. It just resets the system to the base point and if one wheel has different rotation characteristics then it sets off the TPMS warning.

I set my tyre pressures when there is no sun on the vehicle to 3.2bar all round if I'm not towing.

3.2 bar seems high when not towing, what is the towing pressure?

As for temperature rise no
3.2 bar seems high when not towing, what is the towing pressure?
Numlexia strikes again should be 2.3bar.
It's a compromise between the normal setting of 2.2 bar and the eco setting of 2.5bar which gives a hard ride but about 5 mpg better economy.
3+ bar for the rears when towing leaving the fronts as is.

Some cars have TPMS sensors in each tyre valve - others use the ABS sensors to measure rotational speed - the two systems are completely different - VW Group (VAG) cars use both methods depending on model.

Do the non ABS ones still have a reset/relearn button?
I've not seen the tyre valve type as I've only owned the bottom end Skoda brand.

No - at least my Touareg doesn't although there is a menu option to select full load pressures or normal - generally, the ABS-type TPMS is fitted on cheaper models but the 3rd generation Touareg, from 2018, uses the cheaper type along with other decontenting - I don't know what the equivalent Audi, Porsche and Bentley models use.

My Touareg's door sticker specifies 2.3/2.3 bar but I run mine at 2.2/2.5 as this gives more even tyre wear across the tread - it does though mean that the system often highlights low pressure with only a slight temperature drop.

My car has the ABS sensor system, its worse than useless! It has never yet picked up the low pressure warnings my Tyre pal overmarket dustcap replacement external sensor system has (correctly) alerted me to.
The car system does have a "learn" feature but I reckon it's dyslexic, hence my fitting of Tyrepal.
On that very note I did buy a "Chinese" TPMS off Ebay for my PVC, it cost about £18 including a solar powered head unit. It's brilliant and cost half of what Tyrepal charge for a single replacement wheel sensor!

My Qashqai has the non-abs sensors. There is a menu option to set the front and back levels separately and also to perform a calibration, which I do when I change the tyre pressures when towing or not.

The system is clever enough to know that I've rotated the tyres so the l/r and f/b are always in the correct position.

I have a Chinese Tyrepal on the caravan, unfortunately after 2 years the valve base split so I cae back to a flat. I will never know the cause but I've not had a valve do that before.
