I bought a camper in Russia through a reseller.
Now the elderly camper has a new life.
I would like to find contacts of the former owner to be friends with him. But how to do that?
I have a VIN number, can this help?
Can someone help me here on the forum?
Happy New Year 2022 everyone!

I would think that UK Data Protection laws would apply and entities are forbidden to supply that information.

Just put pictures on various caravan forums with your request and it might come up with some leads or even the previous owner if they use Forums. Also see if there an Owners Club or Facebook Group for your camper.

I don’t understand what kind of photographs can contribute to the search.

If you bought this vehicle in Russia through a reseller, a UK based caravan forum is unlikely to be able to help in any meaningful way.
Perhaps the person who sold it to you would be a good place to start?

Jogs someone’s memory that perhaps they knew someone who owned one the same, or even perhaps the same one. Because as things stand I haven’t a clue what your camper looks like.

I have a variant almost in its original form.
It is called ELDDIS Whirlnwind 1999.
I went to take photographs.

I don't know if I'm missing something here, but this isn't really making a great deal of sense to me.
Is the 'camper' that you referred to a campervan or a caravan?
Do you live in the UK?
An Eddis Whirlwind was a British manufactured caravan and it looks as though a used model has somehow found it's way to Russia and has been sold to you there.

That's right. It's a UK-made trailer. I like it and I bought it in Russia

And you hope to make friends with whoever the previous owner in the UK was?
It's a long shot but you never know who might be reading this thread.
In the meantime there are many friendly caravan owners on this forum who will be happy to offer any technical advice that you may need.

The CRIS registration scheme was not intended to allow new owners to contact old owners. It was set up to hopefully define who owns the title to a caravan to help avoid fraudulent dealings.

CRIS is a voluntary scheme designed collect and process information about the legal owners of a caravan based on its VIN identity to establish who has title to the caravan. The relevant authorities may request details about the owners, but not the general public.

Th general public can only request a CRIS check (https://www.cris.co.uk/cris-check/ ) which will only reveal
  • If a caravan has been reported as stolen
  • If it has been recorded with outstanding finance
  • If it has been written off by an insurance company
  • If it is registered to a keeper (if you have their name, we can confirm this)

You must understand me correctly. I am not asking for the disclosure of other people's data. I want to share my email address with everyone I am looking for. If you know that.

Regardless of the above. As I suggested in post #6. Using the word MAY.

CRiS. just might inform a previous owner of the new owners email. It’s a long shot but nothing ventured! As they say. Also, no data protection issue.
