towing combo

anyone help as to wether my 55 plate peugeot 307 hatch and 1992 lunar sunbeam will behave ok when on the road.the limits are ok having worked out it will be about 88% when fully loaded

Hi david, little do you know you have potentially unleashed a debate about the 85% rule/guideline/advice/myth. See recent threads on this topic. Before anyone else piles in, I, who knows nothing, will say that the car to van weight ratio is only one factor in towing stability. Correct loading, noseweight, tyre pressures and driving style all contribute to whether a unit "behaves" on the road. Pay attention to all these things and you should be OK.

Hi David,

Mel is in my view absolutely right. weight ratio is only one factor, and by no way necessarily the biggest factor.

Just aim to keep the caravan as light as possible.

Mel You are the one that mentioned the taboo ratio figure, David only reported his figure.

Referring to the recommendation as a rule is downright irresponsible as it could lead one into a state of false security based on the assumption that everything below the limit is safe and everything above unsafe.

meekly, looking down while foot traces a circle: Sorry John, Sorry Ray, Sorry Lutz. I didn't mean to start anyting.
