Spot on, I too value my privacy, although no dogs, dislike them, Why should I converse with strangers, who in every day life I would not talk to. Just because I am on holiday, a courteous, hello, good morning, etc., but thats all.

I take 5 windbreaks with me everytime I go away. This gives my young daughter a safe area to play in. If people have a problem with people using windbreaks perhaps they should give up caravanning or go to adult only sites.

For me personally i put the windbreaks up to seperate myself from gazing eyes of others. Thats not to say i wont talk to anyone as i do all the time, is it unsociable no. I am on holiday and i want to relax this is how i do it, i have no problem with anyone and their wanting to keep there pitch open so why complain about what i want. It's time people let others do there own thing and worried more about there own lifes than moan about others.

HI everyone, well I have 2 windbreaks, one for the cadac which is a must otherwise the gas goes out and the other which is multifunctional depending on where we are, ie:
1. it prevents unruly kids whose parents can't or won't control them from playing, running, cycling, annoying my dogs on my allocated space....
or
2. it prevents my dogs becoming agitated when "others" trespass onto my allocated space
or
3. it prevents any over inquisitive from noticing how many bottles of wine we have consumed in any given period
or
4. it can be a combination of all the above and also protect us from the WIND
we are totally sociable and definitely DO NOT close our blinds or curtains until lights out (see other topic strands)because we like to see what's going on ourselves!!
to be honest I am amazed how many people are totally ignorant and disrespectful of others privacy, I would never contemplate walking accross someone else's pitch, and if my children were still young (yes I have had them but they are now grown up) and with me they would certainly not be allowed to run amok as I have witnessed recently during the holiday period at no less than 2 CC parks, where the wardens were so frustrated with their unruly and unmanerable behaviour it begs belief, and if they had nowhere else to play except miles from their parents outside the toilet blocks and reception areas despite both sites having country parks located right outside their entrance gates with access from the site I could understand it... beautiful hanging baskets and planters were regularly subjected to the force of the missed kick, cars thumped and towing off was like towing off through an obstacle course of oncoming scooters, bikes and the like despite the one way system. Thank goodness school's back next week.

Nicely put Sian - you have just underlined why I leave my caravan in storage for the school holiday periods. What is it with the unruly kids these days?

We have had children running through our pitch and winding up our dogs, as well as adults just walking through as tho' we were not there.
I do not like windbreaks so a "Dog Warning" sign has helped.
Did you read that report about a caravan site (not sure if it was a static or tourer) where a reporter stayed? She said that "Most of the residents had shaven heads and tatoes - and that was the women".
The article went on to say that the children were up all night and the parents drunk. Then the children were overtired and rude during the day.

If you could just throw in 4x4's, people who watch TV, people who go to bed early, people who are unsociable, windbreaks etc etc then it will be much easier that having them on seperate postings and having to swop between them.

I think only a true Anorak would think this second comment a valid point. I also believe Wendy was making a personal observation - not going for publication of a clinical trial in "Statistics Made Interesting".Wendy, can you please tell me the basis of your remark 'windbreakers think everybody is looking at them'?
Did you cary out a survey and if so how many windbreakers out of the thousands out there did you ask?
Clive, my posting wasn't a complaint against your posting in any way. The heading of the General section says it all for me. It was, as yours was, tongue in cheek. I respect your absolute right to do what you want ( as long as its legal etc).

If you care to read the threads more carefully on this forum, some contributors have clearly stated that they use windbreaks and as means to preserve their privacy, and stop people "gazing at them".Clive, just interested thats all. Having just returned from our very first caravanning holiday, I was suprised by how reclusive MOST people seemed. There I was struggling with destructions for the awning for 3 hours and the only help I got was a 3 year old girl who informed me that her dad does'nt take that long..........
