Hi all,

i am new to caravaning and am looking to purchase a caravan within the next week or so. JUst a quick question to my fellow caravanners about my car. It is a 2004 vauxhall vectra 2.0 sri turbo, it has 175 bhp and i believe 195 foot of torque delivered at 2500 rpm, so all seems pretty good in theory. However just wondered if any of you tow with this vehicle and what it is like performance etc. Will be looking at arond 1100kgs laden at most for van etc as being new dont want any mishaps, also will never live it down at work as i am a paramedic. Many thanks indeed, ian.

The 2006 Vectra 2.0T SRi is 1456 kg kerbweight (85%=1238kg) with a manufacturers towing limit of 1600kg. I think the 2004 is very similar.

You should have a good stable outfit with an excellent power-to-weight ratio for the steep bits!

You don't say whether the Vectra is a saloon or an estate. If it's a saloon, then the max. towload is 1600kg, as Roger says. If it's an estate, the limit is actually 1700kg so long as a gross train weight of 3800kg is not exceeded.

Hi Ian, I have a Vectra Estate sri 150 2.2 petrol. Not had a chance to tow with it yet but the general impression I get from answers on this forum ( including questions I have asked ) is that it is a very good tow car but suffers from wheel spin in wet conditions. I have only towed with rear wheel drive but I understand that this can be a problem with all front wheel drive cars and I dont know if the Vectra is any worse than any other. Jim.

I have the same Z20LET engine in my 04 Zafira GSI, you will have no problems with this unit especially with the cruise control just set it at 55-60 on the motorway and you won't need to change gear at all. Fuel consumption is down to about 26 27mpg

Towed with a 2.0 Vectra Estate for 3 years and was a great towcar. Towing a Bailey Pageant Imperial.

Hopeless for reversing on wet grass but then I suppose all FWD cars are the same.

The only downside I found was wear on the inside edges of the rear tyres, only lasted 10000 miles with probably 3000 miles towing.

Steve
