But do you then have reactivate Autohold again. I guess yours is like Roger’s, but not all retain the setting. Mine drops out of Autohold and applies the parking brake if stationary for some time, but once you touch the throttle it releases the PB and Autohold is retained until the car is switched off. . But not sure what happens if I followed your procedure, as it rarely goes into Park other than at the end of a journey. But mainly in Drive when stopped the engine isn’t running anyway, or will cut in occasionally for a short time to put some charge in to the battery, perhaps if it’s a hot day and aircon is on.

Don't buy an Audi then..... Not all, admittedly, but some functions revert back to "wrap the driver in cotton wool" mode whenever you re-start it.

They may be changeable with a good diagnostics system like Ross-tech's VCDS which is for Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagens - for instance, my Stop-Start defaults to "on" as standard but can be changed to default to "off" or default to "last setting"

Why not activate the electronic handbrake instead of moving gear shift the Park? We can do that on both our cars. However having said that we have not driven in the dark yet.

Not quite. the Park setting of an auto box locks the transmission. It does not apply the parking brake. As you say the "handbrake" is a totally different and separate system.

On both out Toyotas when selecting Park, the parking brake is automatically applied.

If yours are like mine you can select for the Parking brake to come on when you shift in to P , or alternatively have it such that the driver puts it on. But why anyone would select that option is beyond me.

I was not saying it operates the parking brake . P doesn’t. It merely isolates the Auto hold thus extinguishing the brake lights. Mine is the same as Roger’s not like Clive’s or Buckman’s .
Once in P and the engine switched off the parking brake will then apply automatically.

Just remember to turn it on when starting or you could get a surprise as you first come to a stop where’s there is a slope. Assuming your car doesn’t default to Autohold.

Last time I check once it in Autohold and light is on so far not default 🙏
