Manual or Automatic ?

If you look at the NCAP website and see the difference between cars wrt Occupant Safety. This is primarily the protection given by the structure, aided by airbags, safety belts, seats and head restraints. Some cars reach the high 90 score, others are at 70%. Whilst technical safety aids can help avoid a crash, or reduce the effects of a crash, at the end of the day it’s the structure and primary protection that counts in my choices.

Having had two write offs, Volvo 740 estate, and Saab 9000 all we suffered were stiff necks. So if we decide to change cars in the future the CRV and Forester are high on the list.
I thought Sam was referring to the safety of the auto box and not the whole vehicle.

What’s NCAP got to do with Auto v Manual?
Time to refocus maybe😉
Sam brought up safety as independent of gearbox type then Buckman linked in, and Plodd deems safety a significant decision maker.

Refocus? Is there anything more that can be said on auto versus manual? I’m off for a well deserved glass of red. It will settle the fish and chips.

Auto especially when match to low boost petrol turbo that produces 100% torque at 1500, my 1.4T Vitara. Spends most of time < 3000rpm even towing caravan and rarely feel need to override auto with paddle shifts.

Also regularly drive auto non turbo 1.6 Vitara. Just has to look at slight rise in road and auto kicks down so its doing 4000rpm. That is with gentle foot and lightly loaded. Definitely engine that would work better with manual gearbox

A question for those with EVs please.

How slow can you reverse with an EV without any shuddering. The J word may not be PC😉

When our grandson had his Tesla Y it was a very slow speed for manoeuvring and I didn't notice any juddering. His PHEV 5 Series and daughter's Corolla hybrid are similarly smooth at crawl. Effectively they are CVT-like. My Kia petrol with DCT isn't, nor was my Skoda diesel with DSG. Neither are/were as good as a manual with clutch where I had control of slippage and the benefit of an old fashioned parking brake lever.

😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Really sorry, that is hilarious! “Control of slippage” …….. “Old fashioned parking lever” 😂😂🤣😂😂

I doubt that you are sorry.
What’s so hilarious about it. Would welcome your reply when you have regained your composure. Would “ control of the clutch” be more acceptable to you?
