Sorry, you are not making much sense with your posting.
I understand ,if correct, that if you have all your power sources ON, ie mains connected and 12v supply ON, you don't get a red light when trying to turn the amplifier on.

What I don't understand is " but when i plug the 12v in "
What 12 v do you mean????

The Status"box" its amplifier is a 12 Volt DC device, not mains so to work must have a 12 VDC feed.

How is yours wired up to be supplied with its required 12V DC?

Typically, the "box" has a permanent feed, only switched by the "box's" own switch.

Has it been in your case wired from the same plug used to power the TV so requires that to inserted?

Again, typically, many dual mains and 12V DC TVs used in caravans and MHs will be factory or dealer wired to always be powered by the 12V DC option. Done that way it does not matter if on an EHU or not, as the TV and aerial work in just the same user way.
There is no concern of depleting the battery's 12V DC when on an EHU as that is being charged by the EHU also, therefore it is pointless wiring a dual voltage TV up to a mains socket.

Only just started haveing this problem i used to be able to turn the amplifier on and off when not being used but now the red light on the amplifier only comes on when the 12 v is pluged in from the tv lead then it works fine its not a problem as i always use 12v operation even when i use EHU but its just confuseing how and why its just stoped operatiing in the normal way

With the EHU connected and turned on check the voltage at the amplifier plug. The 12v arrives in the centre ‘hole’ of the plug, the earth is the outside. I suspect you’ll find there’s no earth connection. Remove the 12v socket next to the tv and check whether the wire from the amplifier has been piggybacked from this socket. 12v DC is funny stuff. It’s possible the earth has come adrift and the TV and consequently the amplifier is picking up an earth from somewhere else like the ground for the aerial socket via your aerial lead when plugged into the TV. You could prove that by simply disconnecting the TV aerial lead from the socket

Yes exactly. Have you tried plugging anything else into the 12v socket like a car phone charger to see if it’s working. Just thinking of things you can do without resorting to checking with a multimeter.

Tks Tuningdrew i did what you suggested and the thing you pointed out were correct i set the tv up pluged 12v plug into the socket put the arial in and the status worked fine but as soon as i pulled the tv arial out the red light on the amp went out and when i put the 240v volt plug in no light on the amp came on ???so if like you said its a earth problem how do i go on about finding that problem out ??

I would now be checking the other 12 v outlets in the caravan to see if they are working with say a car phone charger. If not then the Earth for the 12v sockets is missing. Probably somewhere near the power supply unit there may be a collection of all the 12v earths at one point.Maybe a broken wire or bad connection there. If the other sockets are working then I’d be looking at the 12v socket where you’ve been plugging the TV in. I could imagine that that’s where your fault lies as the aerial amplifier may be connected to this socket.
Keep in touch.

Because the Amplifier is a 12v device it’s still looking for the earth. Out of interest does the TV work on 12v without the aerial connected?

Proves that the earth is missing. And it’s finding an earth through the telly. I don’t know what van you have but is the 12v socket you’re running the TV off close to the amplifier?

Because it hasn’t got an earth on the power supply plug. On my Swift it’s a black plug with a black and red wire going to it. . Maybe take a photo of your amplifier or give me the make and model of it.
You didn’t say whether the TV turns off when you unplug the aerial lead when it’s on 12v
