The two Pro Elite Stoplocks arrived today and fitted to the cars. They really look robust, but hope they are never put to the test.
We only put ours on my wife car when we are away like you would never want it tested out(y)

A friend of mine applied all manner of expensive security to his car and was confident that it was theft proof

Until it was picked up and lifted onto the back of a low loader, never to be seen again.

Nothing you can do when it is uplifted, unless the car has a tracker fitted then you may be able to trace the car.

I’m torn between the devil and the deep blue sea.

BIL car was stolen last year. It was recovered within a few days by luck , nothing else,
It took the Insurers repairer 5 months to fix it. They had real problems with the electrics and getting replacement e keys to work. Every panel had been damaged but sadly not enough to write it off.
He was only allowed a hire car for two weeks so had to rely on family for lifts.

I’d rather it hadn’t been recovered and he could have started again. Money is one thing but in truth they really don’t feel it’s their car. Tainted. A trade in is on the horizon in September.

A neighbour of ours in Milton Keynes had a garage collect their car for a service and to find a fault. The driver left the Garages car parked on the road outside the house. The garage diagnosed the fault ,but after ordering a warranty part was found non in the country. 4 weeks later the car was repaired and returned to neighbour by another delivery driver. He went to the garages car, which had been parked on the road for a month and found it had been there all that time unlocked.Hopefully this shows we live in an honest area.

Not so sure about my parts of Milton Keynes, spates of Expensive car thefts, but it seems to be seasonable.

There was a spate of keyless Ford thefts in my area a few years ago, including a Kuga stolen in daylight whilst the owner was sat having their dinner a few feet from the car. My father invested in a steering wheel lock and faraday pouches for his Ford. One of the reasons I don't want to change my car at the moment [Whilst I wait for physical buttons to be phased back in] is that my car isn't keyless and requires the actual key to start. Being 11 years old is also a theft deterrent!

Police are now advising to fit an old fashioned mechanical steering wheel lock( or a brake lock) on keyless ignition cars. Even with the so called Faraday cage boxes a powerful radio signal can still get through , although much attenuated. What these hi tech thieves don't carry these days is a hacksaw or large bolt croppers to cut through your steering wheel. Strangely enough a client turned up at my workshop in his 2006 motorhome to have tap replaced and as he got out he attached a steering lock to the steering wheel, when I asked him politely who would steal such and old motor he said "well you never know until it happens" , So I have just bought a steering lock for my 2014 Outlander PHEV cause I would be gutted if it got stolen

With ther Ford Cortina and Anglia, you did not need the car key to start the vehicle. Front door key worked just as well. They were not stolen for a very good reason because if you stole one, someone else would steal it off you! 🤣 🤣 🤣

As mentioned earlier, we now have one for each of our cars. The Faraday pouch I have, you can place it right up alongside the door and you still cannot access the vehicle.

My Cortina estate was far beyond stealing, but 100% reliable.

We have a Faraday pouches and a good quality steering lock, the car and caravan are covered by cameras, if they want the car they car have it as long as they leave the caravan alone.

When Mrs H , got a bigger Mobility buggy to get around on that took up the spare space I had in our garage, two mobility buggies my motorbike, Fridge freezers etc. I had to leave our SantaFe outside on the driveway.
I got the Stop Pro Elite steering lock, from Halfords, fits very nicely, with the added security, that if anyone tries to fiddle with it, it hits the horn pad area, giving an alarm. Bonus.

When I ordered my new car, I started with the base model which didn't have keyless and then just added all the options I wanted - I'm the opposite, they can have the caravan but leave the car!

An interesting analysis - notable brand absences are VW, Skoda and Seat - despite plenty of Audi models featured

When I switched to my Audi A6 last year a few main insurance companies wouldn't insure it unless I had an approved tracker fitted. In the end I find some that would insure it, I kind of expected it to appear near the top of that list but it isn't featured! I try not to get too worried about car theft but some of the newer steering wheel locks do seem to be a well made bit of kit and a visual deterent at least.

Many many years ago I had an Old Ford Cortina estate I used to park it and leave it unlocked, one day all the posh cars had there drivers windows broken, they did not bother with my wreck of a car.
Ah memories!

As a child, i remember walking with my dad back to his Cortina where he caught someone trying to open the lock with a screwdriver.

The situation was settled to everyone's satisfaction - with my dads fist
